In collaboration with Colette Delerue, Music Box Records proudly presents the remastered CD release of Georges Delerue’s original music from the French TV series Tours du monde, tours du ciel (1991) directed by Robert Pansard-Besson (La Légende des sciences).

Broadcasted in 1991, Tours du monde, tours du ciel is still recognized today as a model of scientific popularization, and was at the time a not-to-be-missed TV program for all amateur astronomers in France: they still vividly remember Georges Delerue’s wonderful music. The score, highlighted by the deep tone of the strings of the Orchestre de Paris, displays its melodic and contemplative lyricism in each of the chosen sequences and conveys a fascinating feeling of infinity.

The album also includes the first string quartet (Premier Quatuor à cordes) composed by Georges Delerue in 1948 and performed by the members of the Traffic Quintet under the supervision of composer Alexandre Desplat and the violonist Dominique Lemonnier. It was recorded at Studio Davout in 2010 for Pascal Cuenot’s documentary dedicated to the composer (Prelight Films).

Remastered by Christophe Hénault from the original master tapes, Tours du monde, tours du ciel features the unreleased main title not included in the previous CD edition. The package includes an 8-page booklet with exclusive liner notes by Florent Groult. The release is limited to 750 units.

Music Box Records proudly presents the remastered CD release of Eric Demarsan’s original music from the French TV series La Légende des Sciences (1996) directed by Robert Pansard-Besson (Tours du monde, tours du ciel).

Six years after the wide public and critical acclaim of Tours du monde, tours du ciel, La Légende des sciences, is a TV mini-series documentary whose various themes are above all meant to make science really interesting and to incite viewers to dream and learn intelligently. The name of Éric Demarsan was suggested to Pansard-Besson by the producer Dominique Vignet, who was a great admirer of Demarsan’s music for Jean-Pierre Melville’s film The Red Circle. The music stretches into long and broad melodic segments that flow majestically over magnificent images, transforming from time to time into a kind of slow waltz, and coloured here and there by charming little impressionist touches.

Remastered by Christophe Hénault, this present edition offers the same content as the album released when the series was broadcasted in the summer of 1997: the enchanting “suite symphonique en forme de couleurs” (“symphonic suite in the shape of colours”) with the original orchestrations written by Éric Demarsan, and the strings-only versions requested by the director. The package features an 8-page illustrated booklet featuring exclusive liner notes by Florent Groult that includes a new interview with the composer about his score. The release is limited to 300 units.

The album also includes the first string quartet (Premier Quatuor à cordes) composed by Georges Delerue in 1948. His classical piece makes here its world premiere CD release.

Not at all a world premiere as Delerue´s First String Quartet has already been available on this Canadian DCM CD in 2006 where it was played by the Quatuor Claudel-Canimex:

I hate it when record companies flat out lie about this:

Instant purchase along with the second title. Though my bank put an instant freeze on my card because it found the purchase (out of the states) suspicious. embarrassment

13. Premier mouvement
14. Deuxième mouvement
15. Troisième mouvement
16. Quatrième mouvement

The Music Box tracks for the String Quartet are listed as above. But the other available recording of the work lists the movements as:

Allegro
Vif et léger
Adagio
Allegro vivace

Is one or the other the composer's original movement titles?

Received the Music Box disc... very nice, and the sound is excellent.

Love TOURS DU MONDE, TOURS DU CIEL, didn't care for PREMIER QUATUOR À CORDES, just not my kind of music.

Making a playlist is rather challenging for TOURS DU MONDE being its not only very short but half the cues are only seconds long, (and each begin with dialog!)

My first attempt was to cross-fade tracks 1 & 2 into one cue. Then cut out all the dialog and cross-faded 7 thru 12 into one track.

Beautiful music though. I wish Delerue were alive to do Cosmos.

I don't remember dialogue on the original Tours du Monde CD?
I need to give it another listen, or can someone confirm?

I thought I just confirmed the dialog. wink Basically someone speaks the name of the planet in French in the beginning of each track.

There were no dialogues on the first TdM, TdC release.

There were no dialogues on the first TdM, TdC release.

Weird the first release didn't have the dialog and weirder yet the second release does.

I changed my mind on my playlist. I cut out the dialog on the short planet cues but instead of combining them into one cue I used each one as segue's between the longer tracks.

There is no dialog. These short introductions are just the announcements spoken by Georges Delerue himself in order to introduce the name of each planet.

Perhaps I should've said spoken words? Anyway no big deal. I just cut them out. Lovely score and very happy to own this release. Thanks for re-releasing it.

I also purchased LA LÉGENDE DES SCIENCES, which I haven't played yet.

Spun La LeGende Des Sciences, it's a wonderful "easy listening" score. My only slight criticism is the program lacks variety. I wonder if Sirusjr or Joan have checked out the samples?
