Would like to see James Newton Howard try his hand at this. I always thought he was the most obvious successor to Goldsmith with his sophistication and intelligent approach toward scoring.

Listening again to Goldsmith's slightly western flavoured upbeat unused end title for First Blood Part 2 makes me think it could be re-purposed for the Rambo mid west farm life focus of the new film.

I will be very surprised if Brian Tyler does not return for this one.He did a great job of using the original Goldsmith themes while adding his own unique flavor.

Stallone seems to have a good working relationship with him also.

This seems pretty low budget compared to the others. I’d be surprised if any of those “big” names were hired.

Tyler is busy. He’s scoring Charlie’s Angels right now at 20th Century Fox Studios. „Ready or Not” movie is coming with his score too for less than 2 months.

"John Rambo" from 2008 have 50 million dollars budget. It was composed by Brian Tyler.

"Rambo V" budget is 120 million dollars.

Yes indeed, I’d be amazed if this film had a $120 million budget, where did you read that?

So I just saw this.

I'm embargoed, so I can't say very much.

I quite liked it, and it's in my top 20 of the year (so far), but it's not on the level of the previous film and its glorious, operatic 'violence fantasy'.

Some other things detract from the experience, like the score. Terrible, even in his arrangements of the Goldsmith quotes. Tyler simply doesn't know how to do dynamics in action sequences; it's a non-stop noisefest with drums going wild. It's strange, because he CAN do it (for example in a beautiful score such as STANDING UP), but somehow he goes completely bonkers in action movies.

I'll chime in later with more specific comments. Just wanted to give a first impression, directly after getting home.

Totally agree on your assessment of Tyler's percussive chatterbox for movies like this.
