I suspect that despite the 'revisionist' stuff that will inevitably be in there (did Stan ever say "I love him"? 81 year old I know will raise an eyebrow to that one), there'll be plenty to enjoy too. They've said they won't be whitewashing too much of the real people, but it's clearly respectful.
It's going to bring Laurel and Hardy to millions who might not otherwise seek them out, and for a short time, even boost their popularity.
The two stars are clearly doing good work. I knew Coogan had Stan's deep real voice, and being a good impressionist he'll also be able to do Stan the performer. He can be funny in his own right, and I get the feeling he might just cut between a genuine acting performance and impression in the right measures. He's also from the north west of the UK, so some part of their basic accents already have similarities.
I'd just like to know where else in the UK will get the premier, as the publicity does say it will get a simultaneous showing throughout Britain.
The fact the trailer already tugs at our heartstrings gives me good feelings about this. So much I can't wait to see. Hal Roach, and James Finlayson for starters.

I don't know either. I might just watch their old films* instead of going to see something that, like too many other bio films, takes license to crowbar dramatic shape into their story.
*Because I certainly have not seen all of them, by far.

Stunning. From that trailer, at times, it looked like they had been resurrected to play themselves. For that alone all official Sons of the Desert and sons of the Desert will flock to this one in droves.
Absolutely. All of my Tent for certain. Wouldn't be surprised if we have a Tent outing together for it. If one of those UK premiers is in Sheffield you can be sure the Brats will be there in force!
And, DiD, I think it's already done one of it's jobs if you really are going to watch some of the boys' actual films. I have seen them all, and while inevitably some are better than others, they're all worth watching. The Hal Roach years especially of course.
This new movie is more essential to we Sons than the rest of the population, and I'd say we're comfortable with it in the main.

Well, I have very mixed feelings about this one. The performers look great. The concocted "conflict" will, hopefully, not override the genuine love and sweetness that existed between Stan and Babe. And I knew both Ida Laurel, Lucille Hardy Price (their widows) and Lois Laurel. So I can make that statement with authority. I also knew Stan's valley Jimmy Murphy. None of them, nor did any of their co-stars such as Anita Garvin, ever intimate there was ever any serious resentment or animosity between them. Other teams, you bet. But not Laurel and Hardy.
So we'll see. I will definitely go to the picture. But I will NOT wear my fez to the theater!!
You spoil sport! Ha, ha.. I wondered how long it would take you to come to this particular party.
I really think that the main point here will be to support the boys and their work. Yes, we all know what 'these' people are capable of when it comes to biopics, but I reckon that there will be at least as much reverence as anything else here.
Believe me, I'll be the first to complain on here and anywhere else if things aren't good enough!
Btw, a couple of years ago a fellow Son managed to get ( I think it was) three double bills of L&H films played across at least two cinema chains in the UK for a one night only showing. I remember distinctly that out of all the folks there only one was wearing a fez - and a fez-o-rama one at that (not cheap) and he wasn't a member of our (or any) Tent!
