Very sad but what a fantastic life and career. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

That's a good point. But if true, why didn't he just say that? I've read very little words by him, comparatively speaking to other composers, so I don't know what his general candor is. What ever the way, I hope he still says "Yes" to certain projects, if good stuff comes his way from another director.

From the thread title, it almost looked like Morricone had put a stop to the entire concept of film music, and I was like “Well film music had a good run - if anybody has the authority to shut it down, I guess it’s him!”

I don’t have time to read threads, Thor - just thread titles!

Saying he will only do films with Tornatore is like Williams saying he will only do Spielberg films. A) It is pretty much already true B) He might be talked into breaking that rule. For instance possibly Tarantino's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLWOOD. Thanks, Laurent. So sad news …, even if predictable. He decreased his film works, and to stop is logical, but I didn’t want to believe he would officially stop. Although he already announced that he will write scores only for Tornatore, in November 2017 (at the end of the interview): https://www.ilsole24ore.com/art/commenti-e-idee/2017-11-12/l-oscar-piu-bello-mi-fu-negato-171413.shtml?uuid=AEtPok2C&refresh_ce=1 (reprised as news in Maestro #15) I wanted, I want to believe that Tarantino is an exception, or that maybe something is already written for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". Even one track! Like a signature, an “addio” to international cinema. Tarantino has used Morricone tracks in his films before, he is a fan of the maestro - guessing he will use some think again soon enough, maybe OUATIH.

MAY I POINT OUT JOURNALISTS AND HOW THEY TRANSLATE AND INTERPRET MORRICONE HAVE PRETTY MUCH SUCKED OVER THE YEARS. There are many examples of this. One prominent one was an interpretation of a quote from him "that he could never work for a director like Quentin Tarantino". When he did, he was called on it and simply answered back that was a total misunderstanding of what he said. Indeed, it was in a classroom setting and he was asked about one of the needledrop Tarantino cues in KILL BILL, and a better translation was "I couldn't work in the manner this music was utilized." There are other examples so let's not get dramatic until he says he is hanging up his baton for good. I agree with all of this. And even if accurate, if he's still composing for Tornatore he's not really retired, just cutting back on his output some, which at this point in his life makes sense. Yavar
