I recently re-watched this TV programme (originally broadcast 28 Dec 97): Nobody Does It Better: The Music of James Bond and thoroughly enjoyed hearing Barry, Arnold, Black and Martin talking about writing JB007 scores and title songs ... there is some wonderful trivia.
The YouTube video suffers with poor sync but appears to be almost complete (my recording plays out a moment after the YT copy ends).
20+ years on ... the downbeat comment Barry makes about "who is is charge" appears even more relevant. Mitch

It would have been 4.5-years minus covid (and it's still shorter than the six years, four months gap between LICENCE TO KILL and GOLDENEYE). But it's still too long; I miss the days (or years) of two-year intervals.
I am excited to see what Zimmer does with this score. I have a good feeling his version of the James Bond theme will be pretty dang cool. Here’s to hoping!

I had hoped for a killer gunbarrel. A striking set of Zimmer chords and then a full-on Johnny Marr guitar set-piece of the Bond theme. Something rivalling Goldeneye for ingenuity.
Sadly, from the preview track that was released, I think we're getting an Arnold clone. Same old, same old.
I teach high school and overheard 3 girls talking and asked what they were talking about because they were pretty animated. They were fantasying about attending the Billie Eilish concert in Florida. One of the girls, a freshman, has her hair dyed just like her. I asked her why she liked her, it was the lyrics to her songs. She is big with high school age girls. Maybe an inspired choice.
Billie Eilish is the present day revival (on a predictable time cycle) of the heroin chic style from the 90s, meets 90s street hip hop. Margot Robbie in Suicide Girls is not far off and you can find this everywhere on social media, with heavy makeup, colored hair, hypersexualized and emotionally broken - which is always going to be resonant with a subset of teenagers. The biggest change is rap/hip hop is no longer a separate niche, it’s pretty much a universal flavor across most everything now, which is why she’ll sometimes combine her gothy look with parachute pants.
I’d venture to say that teenagers who are interested in that style will find very little of interest in the film itself.
Leave it to Zimmer to work with people whose main purpose is to be a marketing draw. Can’t wait to hear what Johnny Marr can do that no other professional guitarist in the world can do. Because only Johnny Marr can play this music. Only Johnny Marr.

These three students are among the sweetest, most respectful and dependable students I have. Two are seniors. One of the seniors is from the Bronx. New this year. The other, since I teach in a small school has been in my art class for four years. I had her older brother and sister in class too. Great kids. The Freshman with the hair is minister’s daughter. I don’t think you can generalize about her appeal.
