I welcome 8K so long as it has a 3D function.
No stereoscopic ability = no sale.

Reading about it elsewhere, it is all about making an option for massive screens.

“People want larger screens at home,” said Sascha Lange, VP Marketing & Sales at Sharp, who thinks the only limitation on TV sizes is resolution, hence the drive for 8K. “The pixel density of a 64-inch 4K TV is exactly the same as a 32-inch Full HD TV,” he said. “And a 120-inch 8K TV also has exactly the same pixel density as a 32-inch Full HD TV.”

It will also help make it possible for VR headsets to have the pixel density necessary for people to no longer see the pixels.

But yes like others here I still have not yet upgraded my home TV from the 720p TV that I use now at around 35 inches. Works plenty good for my needs.

8K TV on the horizon?

You'd have thought with that clarity I should be able to see one! smile

We bought our present screen - 42" Plasma - in 2010 and the literature suggested that with our normal viewing habits we could expect the screen to last about 50yrs. Based on that I don't expect to be looking for a new screen ... just yet.

Yup, Plasma's no more. When my 47" Panasonic Plasma gives up the ghost, I'm going to have to get used to a different kind of picture, maybe OLED, but that's hopefully a long way off, my telly might even outlive me.

Yes, my friend - but where's the fun in that!

Well, if you'd like to talk it through with my better-half, maybe we could look at replacing the screen before 2060 ...

My darling allows me to spend on Hi-Fi (and even admits to hearing the better quality sound smile) but, as yet, the "V" part of "AV" is stuck well in the past (the screen was already old, being end-of-line, when we bought it).

You need a strategem. With us, it was "Babe, just imagine how much better you'd be able to see Aiden whatsisface in Poldark with a 4k TV..."

After that, she was putty in my hands!

So you're probably never going to buy a TV again? In home 3D is dead on pretty much all new televisions.

Meanwhile, two years ago I finally got a TV with a USB port.

My tv is a big box effort from 20 years ago. As wide as it is deep. Never had a day of trouble with it. Columbo looks ace on it.

I miss the days when, say, a Zenith television required four sober, able-bodied, bell-bottom-wearing adults to move it.

My husband is regularly saying we need to get rid of my speakers (nice big towers) because they are in the way. Not happening btw. Though for me the sound is more important than the picture being that detailed so I'm fine with my current setup.

Will my Betamax tapes look better with it?

Thanks, TG, but since we haven't a clue who Aiden whatsisface is ... I've no chance.

Anyhow, I think a new centre speaker is probably ahead of a new screen ... I struggle to follow the dialogue in these modern TV programmes/films.
