Archives • The referencing concerning Daniel J. White's archives continues... and there is a lot of work!

After many analyzes, listening and many collages (according to various scattered sources), five master tapes from Jess Franco/Daniel J. White are now complete, ready to be digitized, restored and edited.

Some titles will be available during the year 2019, others will follow fairly quickly.

I would love to see Guy Bonnet's "Seven Women for Satan" (1976) released !!!

And, of course, "Faceless" (1988).
I think there had been single vinyl and CD-compilation releases but after 30 years the rights might be available again.

Greetings, Lucas Giorgini.

Your thread came to my attention for the 1st time today and I appreciate all your efforts in your chosen areas/genres of French language cinema.

Might I ask how far back in time are you willing to go regarding the age of the recordings?
Will you be able to produced any soundtracks from the 1950s or 1960s?

Thank you for your interested!

It can be possible, of course. French'xploitation is generally between 60's and our days. I personnally start this incredible period with Les Yeux sans visage by Maurice Jarre. Who knows?

Thanks, Lucas!

I hope you won't mind if I make suggestions in this thread?

One (more to come) example:

Faces in the Dark (1960) [aka Les visages de l'ombre by P. Boileau & T. Narcejac]

https://youtu.be/AofONJvyhxA

Although this is U.K. production in English (and some French location filming), I expect its music by Mikis Theodorakis was recorded in France. The Ondes Martenot is performed by Arlette Sibon.
Doubtful the master tapes exist, but you may share my enthusiasm for this score (which is only 3 instruments: piano, jazz bass fiddle & Ondes Martenot).
Composer Mikis Theodorakis is still with us ... so perhaps hopes for his own tape copies remain possible.

Other Theodorakis genre music which I suspect was also recorded in France include Shadow of the Cat https://youtu.be/q9vVS-OL4eU and Five Miles to Midnight https://youtu.be/3bqeddStiS0 (with some source music cues by Jacques Loussier).

I hope I haven't frightened Lucas G. away from FSM with my suggestions. smile

Here's a few suggestions from French-language cinema:

Contes Immoraux (1974) by Maurice Le roux
&
Alice Ou La Derniere Fugue (1977) by Pierre Jansen (a title purportedly available within the PEMA archives)

Any and all of Pierre Jansen's music for films directed by Claude Chabrol would be most welcomed by me. Previous soundtracks of such Jansen music typically contain short suites which barely last beyond 12 minutes in length. I hope Jansen's estate has master tapes with more music than what have been on albums thus far ...

PEMA Music itself doesn´t exist anymore in France since 2014 or 2015. Everything what they had nowadays belongs to Sugar Music in Italy. Unfortunately, Sugar states in their current CAM/PEMA catalogue that - although they are the rights owner - they don´t have any tape material for ALICE OU LA DERNIÈRE FUGUE at all. This is a real pity. I know that a few years ago Music Box had been interested in releasing the score, but if there is nothing in the Jansen estate there is probably nothing they can do about it. Only a miracle could help.
