Except for the Rita Moreno. That was is the one to beat. But it's hard to beat Rita Moreno!
Also illegal.
I wish I could confidently say that the reason the first three seasons didn’t sell well is because Disney skimped on some of the more costly segments, editing them out when they couldn’t secure the rights, or didn’t want to be bothered. I was sorely disappointed by the missing sketches. So I wish I could say that, but unfortunately it’s probably just a matter of ‘kids today’ not being interested, and nostalgia isn’t what it used to be. (It didn’t help that this was sort of a double-dip for die hard fans who already had the overpriced—but complete—VHS tapes.)
The Muppets were really a thing of its time. They made several attempts at rebooting the franchise without much success.

Yes, I couldn't get into them but my wife loved Muppets Tonight and the recent The Muppets show. But she's a little bit indiscriminate... I mean she married me!
The comedy gets better as they find their bearings.
It’s a shame that only three seasons came out.
Well, you were right, MS.
When it got to the Lena Horne episode, the characters began their best shtick: Kermit's frustration, Piggy's karate chops and overacting, and even Waldorf being annoyed at Statler being dim.
Nearly done with season one. The dance numbers are the parts that are the most spectacular, the least-dated (Rita Moreno, Sandy Duncan especially).
And Jerry Nelson is by far the best singer, having aced a version of Paul Jabara's "Dance" using a fey falsetto that sound just drag-queen perfect (in the Twiggy episode),
I'm surprised that Kermit hosting the Tonight Show didn't work out better. As much as I like them, I didn't see them working well in the format, mostly. (The only exception was Animal, who made something out of his segment, and the Bernadette Peters song.) about 38:00
I will say I've never seen Kermit make so many facial expressions. It was amazing how Henson could change his face.
