Obviously it's too soon to speculate (but that's never stopped us before, right), but given the heavy Jon Favreau influence to this series and his strong association with John Debney in the past, I wonder if he will have the clout to bring aboard his favoured composer to the STAR WARS Universe.
How would people around here feel about Debney having a dabble in the Williams world (he's drawn upon that soundscape many times before).
Thoughts?

"Mandalorian" sounds like a kind of orange. Oh, yeah Debney would be nice. McNeely even better.

Gordy Haab. Please give this guy a non video game Star Wars project.

I would not be surprised if John Powell is the new "Star Wars"-Go-To-composer, after getting his blessings from the maestro.

That would be awesome but has Powell ever done television work?

I have no idea who is going to score The Mandalorian however I doubt Debney would score it. If they don`t use anything new or old theme(s) by John Williams I think that Debney could/would/should compose the Theme but the whole score, no. I think they do hire Debney for the theme and someone more or less unknown to do the score, Debney might do the pilot episode though. But that is my guess. I am probably wrong.

The Star Wars universe as we've always known it lives or dies on the strength of its musical accompaniment. Its current masters know this, so you can be sure the road forward is very important to them musically.

I said elsewhere on the forum, that if he can channel the kind of writing he was doing on "SeaQuest", I'm all for some Debney on this!

Since this is Jon Favreau's series, you can be sure that Debney will be involved in some fashion, whether a theme or episode scores. And I am all fine with this!

I suspect we'll get a theme by Williams in any case.

Sigh.

Why the sigh, Justin? (This is a serious question.)

Good for him, but I've not been impressed with any of his work so far. But I know he has a big following, and at the very least I can be proud of a fellow Scandinavian landing a STAR WARS gig. As for how it will turn out, time will tell.

SchiffyM:

Sigh.

Okay. Well, it's sort of like Thor; I haven't enjoyed anything I've heard by him yet (especially that waste of time known as the "Black Panther" score), and nothing he's done says "Star Wars" music to me, especially the annoying use of synths. And when you consider the creator's working relationship with John Debney, it's an especially disappointing assignment.

I get it -- perhaps Debney is busy elsewhere (like the second season of "The Orville"), or the creator (Jon Favreau) didn't have enough pull as the creator to chose the composer. But it doesn't cease my heavy sigh.

And if you even ask me about the sigh that began this post, I'm gonna slap you with a wet noddle.

Got it. I only know "Black Panther," which I thought had a few striking moments but otherwise felt fairly standard to me.

I think I was slightly relieved that it wasn't Debney, because he's a composer who really doesn't do anything for me. I guess he's the sigh I know, whereas Göransson is the sigh I don't (yet).

You checked out the episodes of "SeaQuest" he did?

If you have hesitation, listen to the montage music he wrote for Creed
