My copy arrived today. Thank you so much to La-la Land, Mike Matessino, Steven Spielberg, and the Maestro himself, John Williams, for an extraordinary listening experience. Every time I see Schindler's List, I never fail to tear up when Oskar laments, "I could have done more!" Having the film version of this particular piece of music, to me, is worth the price of the CD. This is a wonderful release and very much appreciated.

My copy arrived today. It goes without saying, this is one of the truly landmark film scores and it's beautifully presented here. The packaging is gorgeous and the bonus tracks on disc 2 are welcome additions to the iconic album.
Unfortunately the thoughtfully written and beautifully illustrated liner notes, which thoroughly describe the background of the film and the creation of the music, don't really go into any detail about the bonus tracks beyond the details already in their track names.
Track 5 "The Perlman Family" is not specifically labelled as an alternate, but the version on the album (second half of track 9, "Stolen Memories") is clearly the film version.
Two tracks are a complete mystery: track 2 "Reflections" and track 3 "Theme for Recorder." They don't appear in the film, presumably they're album suites that were dropped?
The liner notes also talk about how the two choral pieces were recorded in Israel for the album, seemingly backing up the idea that they were never intended to go in the actual film, which makes sense, because they're so utterly different from the existing recordings tracked into the film in those scenes.

1. Schindler's Workforce (Film Version) 12:09 = The exact same assembly of takes of 2M3/3M1 The Money Exchange & 3M1B Recruiting that the film uses (the OST album track used different takes and edit points)
2. Reflections 2:42 = 19M2/20M1 Insert 1, the first attempt to re-do the middle portion of 19M2/20M1 I Could Have Saved More that ultimately got rejected and Insert 2 was recorded and used instead
3. Theme For Recorder 2:15 = Something recorded at the sessions I believe as potential end credit material
4. Remembrances (Alternate) 4:31 = An early take with different instrumentation
5. The Perlman Family 1:15 = An early take of 10M1 The Perlman Family with a different guitar solo, the take used in the film was already on the OST as the second half of "Stolen Memories"
6. I Could Have Done More (Film Version) * 5:56 = 19M2/20M1 I Could Have Saved More with 19M2/20M1 Insert 2 properly edited into it, like in the final film. The OST album track is just the original cue with no inserts included.

Any thoughts on this set and any major sonic improvements? I mostly ignored this when it was announced because the score never really clicked with me. But then I have been wowed by a few Horner scores Intrada expanded with Mr. Mattesino and have enjoyed the big improvements in sound quality. So I wonder if this remastering has converted someone previously not a huge fan or amazed a big fan.

I'm not sure if you're still contemplating buying this CD or if the investment has been made already, but the 1st CD sounds, to my ears at least, pretty much the same as the standard release. The 2nd CD does have a noticeably different remastering.
It has been mentioned that this is because JW is quite protective of this score, and was satisfied with how it turned out the first time.
From my POV, this is a bit of a shame because there are some orchestral details apparent in the 2nd CD (thinking specifically of "Schindler's Workforce" and the alternate version of "Remembrances") that would've been great to hear on the 1st CD.
That being said, I did invest on the release because I love the cover, and was interested in the liner notes. Plus, I lent my original release CD to a friend and the bastard lost it, so... I had to fill in that hole.
