It's a film very much made for the fans. So although superhero stuff isn't really my cup of tea, I can certainly see this ticking off all the required boxes for commercial success.

Now all I need to do is to watch all the Marvel films I haven't seen to be able to grasp all narrative lines and characters in this one. Now THERE'S a project.....

Probably something you can do in the winter months.

Indeed. Lists like this will be useful in that regard:

I'm not too concerned about the movie measuring up to my expectations. I've enjoyed the majority of the MCU movies. I just hope the Endgame score has everything that I felt was lacking in the Infinity War score.

I think it's much better than the INFINITY score. But I'll probably need to hear it outside the film to properly assess it.

I saw the movie today at the press screening in Poland. The music is really great and powerful. A large part of it is maintained in the bombastic and heroic atmosphere, just like in Infinity War. There is a lot of action score of course, but there are also many lyrical and emotional moments that may even recall the nostalgic fragments of Forrest Gump and Contact. In general, score is more diverse than Infinity War - Silvestri even allowed himself to flirt with swing. I'm counting on the CD. And I liked the movie very much.

Does Silvestri reference the Captain America theme at any point, or any of the new themes in Infinity War?

Yes, the Cap theme appears plenty of times.

Thor, like you I had missed a few Marvel pictures. I didn't realize that until I saw Infinity War. Two weeks ago I watched Ant Man and Wasp. Glad I sat through the end credits. Then I watched the last two Captain America films. (Winter Soldier and Civil War.) Hope I'm caught up.

Also references to other non-Silvestri Marvel scores, as one would expect.

I find that interesting. I wonder which theme or themes are chosen for Thor. Doyle, Tyler, or Mothersbaugh? Same with Iron Man and a few other Marvel characters. Having different composers for the same Marvel character must make music choices a bit difficult. (Obviously Guardians and Black Panther and a few others won't have that problem.)

joan, you are doing what I have tried to do since Infinity War and I haven't been able to catch up. I was told I don't need to see Thor, Dark World, the Ant Man movies and Spider Man, Homecoming and the Incredible Hulk. I still have one or two to go and this weekend will be a marathon.

Any thoughts?

Edw, I am no expert. I'm glad I saw Ant Man and Wasp noting the end of the end credits. Glad I saw both Captain America films. They filled me in a lot. Hulk movies seem rather old as is Thor Dark World, so I'm not sure you need to see those before Endgame. I think Captain Marvel needs to be seen before Endgame, and you may have watched it. We have other Marvel experts who may give you more definitive answers.

I've fortunately seen the Captain America films and will now seek out Ant Man and Wasp. My daughter made sure I saw Thor Ragnarok and Dr. Strange. So looking forward to Endgame.

I personally think there are three you could skip: Incredible Hulk, Guardians 2, Iron Man 2.

Must sees to have a solid understanding of the whole cycle:

Iron Man
Thor (first encounter with the space stone)
Captain America: First Avenger (space stone)
Avengers (space and mind stone)
Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World (reality stone)
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Avengers: Age of Ultron (mind stone)
Captain America: Civil War
Black Panther
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Ant-Man
Guardians of the Galaxy (power stone)
Doctor Strange (time stone)
Thor: Ragnarok (which leads directly into...)
Avengers: Infinity War
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Captain Marvel
Avengers: Endgame

And I would watch them in that order.

^ Pretty good list! One thing I'd change is that Ant-Man needs to come after Avengers: Age of Ultron and before Captain America: Civil War. That's how they were released, it,fis chronologically in the timeline, plus it explains some things in Civil War that otherwise would be confusing.

As much as I think Guardians 2 was a lot of nonsense, it was really important in evolving the relationships between Gamora and Nebula and Gamora and Quill. Also, it introduces Mantis. Skipping it and expecting them to be in the same place you last saw them at the end of GOTG1 in Infinity War could be slightly confusing. Not by much, though.

You can totally skip Spider-Man Homecoming, Absolutely nothing in the film has any bearing on Infinity War. All you need to know about Peter and his relationship with Tony is in Civil War. And, actually, considering where Peter is at the end of Homcoming, Tony making him an Avenger in Infinity War doesn't hold much weight.

Good list bagby. I have to catch Thor, the Dark World, Spider Man and the 2 Ant-Man.

Thanks

Bagby's list and others' recommendations helped me a lot too. Thanks.
