I realize this kind of music and this kind of film has gone out of fashion, especially around this board. However, as a young teen, back in 1968, this Franco Zeffirelli film, this score, this scene and this song, 'What is a Youth', left indelible impressions on me that exist to this day. Absolute perfection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nYG_wQMheg

The 1968 Romeo and Juliet, film and score, will never go out of fashion. Don't mind if I use this opportunity to ask: are we ever going to see a proper release of this incredible score?

Plenty of proper releases: It's had 3 CD releases: Capitol (ost, 9 tracks) - https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/4957718?ev=rb Cloud Nine (ost, 20 tracks) - https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/7661796?ev=rb Silva Screen (new recording w/Nic Raine & City of Prague Orchestra, 21 tracks) - https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/7661796?ev=rb Plus numerous vinyl releases around the world since the day the film premiered in 1968. The Capitol, if I'm not mistaken, has movie dialogue over the music, pretty much defeating the purpose of putting the music on disc. I wasn't aware of the Cloud Nine release. Is it the original score without dialogue? How is the quality of the Silva Screen rerecording? I always prefer to have the original score as recorded for the film, but there are some quality rerecordings I enjoy.

Such a beautiful score. The song version of the love theme may be a bit hokey, but the theme itself is just gorgeous. And somewhat of an evergreen. ROMEO AND JULIET is sublime Shakespeare. Shakespeare invented hokey. In 1968 Zefferelli’s film was a massive sensation, especially since this was the first time the characters were played by actors close to the right ages. The score is marvelous, one of Nino Rota’s best. But, as I recall, only the Silva recording includes the dance cue, ‘“The Moresca,” which was apparently an actual Renaissance piece.
