I'm really looking forward to it, I love Menken! His music always hits the right notes with me. Who else is looking forward to ALADDIN?

Count me in!

Hope the live-action adaption offers him the opportunity to write more cues like the amazing duo of "Cave of Wonders" "On A Dark Night" from the animated version.

I'm looking forward to Menken's score as well; new music, favorites from the animated version, great stuff!

OT, but I'm somewhat surprised by the flack the 2019 live action version is catching. Don't know how much is just hyped, but there's some pretty visceral stuff out there, especially that directed at Will Smith (Genie). First they hated it because he wasn't blue enough, now he's too blue.
I'm not a fan of Smith, I liked him in Ali, but give the guy a chance!
Robin Williams certainly set the high-water mark for Genie, but Smith might be able to pull it off.

I am really excited about the live action version, especially since they do have actors of middle eastern descent playing the characters, which I love.

Curious about the new music, I thought they'd just add the numbers from the broadway musical, but I hear they are coming up with all new songs.

I was terribly disappointed with his live action B&TB score. IMHO his biggest misfire in his career. So will take a wait and see attitude for now.

Yeah, that is pretty great, though they're fudging it here and there (Jasmine is half Indian, not strictly speaking middle eastern). Since I'm half middle eastern it's nice to see some representation in Hollywood beyond terrorists on 24, ya know? That said...is that *really* the best actor they could find for Jafar? He seems terribly miscast, like they were doing it based on his looks rather than vocal quality. I mean, Jafar doesn't need to be a good looking guy. And Aladdin looks waaaay too clean cut to be a street urchin; he doesn't really look remotely like a poor person in the marketing. And this is without even bringing up the Will Smith Shrek genie...yikes.

Aside from the CGI, from a production standpoint this looks beautiful and impressive. I like some of the casting (Jasmine and the Sultan look okay, and Nasim Pedrad as a new character looks interesting; been a fan of hers since her SNL days.) But there may be too many red flags for me to bother seeing this in theater after I was totally burned by the horrific live action Beauty and the Beast.

Curious about the new music, I thought they'd just add the numbers from the broadway musical, but I hear they are coming up with all new songs.

I will remain cautiously optimistic.

I went to a screening of this and was not a fan. It has its bright spots, but to me was mostly a dud. The new Jasmine is very good (though I thought her new song was bad), the new Aladdin isn't great, but the new Jafar is truly awful, the worst interpretation of a character I've seen in any of these remakes. Will Smith is fine, but his CGI never stops being distractingly creepy.

A couple of the musical numbers are great (Never Had a Friend Like Me and particularly Prince Ali are the highlights of the film). The score itself seemed too loud and thundering to me, like the original Aladdin score had been re-orchestrated to sound like Pirates of the Caribbean, but it was a very loud screening, so I'll wait to hear it on album before I judge too harshly.

My advice: always buy original products!

(I expect something like the new B&TB - meh...)

So at least it's already better than the Beauty and the Beast remake, at least. wink

All the impressions I got from the trailer (well, aside from Will Smith being "fine"). Jasmine seems like she's in a much better movie.

I saw the film yesterday -- amazingly horrible! I mean, it's actually impressive, the way they completely violated everything that was good about the animated film (which is a personal favourite of mine). Kinda expected, though -- given the people involved. No idea why anyone thought it was a good idea to have Will Smith star in a Guy Ritchie-directed live action version of ALADDIN. If the film doesn't get any Razzies this year, I'll be surprised!

The only good thing about it was the Menken score, but that is obviously not original to the film -- even if they had done their best to 'update' his compositions with more contemporary elements here and there. But still; the memory of his brilliant songs and score -- buried somewhere in there -- stood out like a beaming light in a sea of crap.

Second worst movie of the year so far, only surpassed by LEAVING NEVERLAND. Don't watch this! Stick with the animated film, and the masterpiece original score album instead.

My only hope for this film has always been that its promotional muscle pushes a Legacy Collection out the door for the original.

That release really needs to happen.

To be honest, Thor sounds as if he was predisposed to hate it going in....
which I can understand. I haven't seen the new take on Beauty And The Beast because I really doubt I'd be able to give it a fair shake....

Even on its own terms the new B&tB is awful.

If Thor hates it, then there's at least a chance it doesn't suck that bad.

Also true, though Cinderella and B&TB are cringe worthy. So who knows!
