I was the special guest on this Star Trek podcast and told all sorts of stories and opinions about Star Trek music, some of which I probably should have kept to myself...

FWIW, I enjoyed "Star Trek Music Therapy". Nice shout outs to "Music from the Galaxies" and Budd's "The Final Frontier" (which does sound incredible). Thank you, gentlemen, for the "deep dives". And thank you, Mr. Kendall, for eschewing the glass of wine.

That was pretty brutal in spots. LOL Wasn't expecting a kiss and tell show. Though I have no problem with honest opinions and stories as long as they are not maligning.

My favorite parts.

Vulcan's are Jews.
Whats your favorite Star Trek music? "The Planets." (Paraphrasing)
Roddenberry was kinky as all hell. (Which we already knew)
McCarthy watches a certain new channel. (Sticking to the rules here!)

---------------

While I kinda get Nick Myers surprise reaction during the WOK sessions, its kinda ironic when you consider what he wanted to do with ST6. (and ended up with!)

I'll defend Star Trek 4's score. It had a different tone and I think it works perfectly for that film.

Don't understand how thematic music isn't "sophisticated" yet boring music is.

Now I must see Pretty Maids All In A Row for the first time.

I'll end it there.

What WAS Meyer's "reaction" during the WOK sessions?

What WAS Meyer's "reaction" during the WOK sessions?

Meyer was in on the recording session. Schooled in classical music was taken aback when he heard what Horner wrote. Meyer said something like, "What is that? Didn't you think I would know where you got that from?" Horner said something like, "I'm young and haven't outgrown my influences".

I guess I could see him having that reaction if he knew the original music so well. But it's also funny because not only did Meyer want to use classical music for Star Trek 6, the main theme is a complete rip-off of the Planets. So kinda Pot calling the Kettle Black.

Was just thinking: I would happily pay an extra buck or two to my Film Score Monthly subscription if a podcast with editors/contributors was added.

Meyer talks about it in his excellent book: https://amzn.to/2M86KcS

That was SOOO much fun! Thank you!

First podcast I can think of where I didn't have to argue with anyone on the facts! (Star Trek IV has a tremendous score! But that's an opinion.)

Now I want to hear the Kirstie Alley story!

And didn't everyone already know that Vulcans are Jews?

I do wish the other two (or was it three?) stopped interrupting Lukas and trying to make lame jokes. It really broke up the flow of the conversation.

Didn't she let her fame get to her head? Guess it was merited since she didn't come back for ST:3 and went on to be very successful on television. Though I'm not sure that's the untold story Lukas was referring to.

It's a plague in podcasts, that "always steer it back into the joke zone" thing. I so appreciate those who don't do it, but just stick with the really interesting conversation they're already having.

It happens to me a lot at work. No matter the personnel changes that occur over time, there will always be one guy who interrupts sharply and cuts me off when I'm saying something worthwhile (and I don't talk much). And this guy will do it often. Invariably, what he jumps in with is utterly without value and not worth hearing. Invariably. It's just a pure love of his own loud voice.

Anyway, I don't listen to podcasts, but I made the time for this one and it was worth it.

Yes, I really wanted to hear more of what Lukas had to say. Really love all the insider information.

Well, it did sound like a conversation. smile

The only part that I wanted to jump in and say "Wait wait, go back!" was when Lukas was talking about one show and the conversation jumped over to another one.

Dennis McCarthy titling the tracks he didn't want changed under any circumstances "I Have a Gun" makes more sense now. smile Now I wonder how he and Gene R. got on. If there was any interaction at all, of course.
