Ideally, I would have wanted them to continue the DUNE tradition of using bands like Pink Floyd and Toto, or far-out world music/industrial music like Graeme Revell, but I'm confident Zimmer can deliver that; something out of the ordinary and non-traditional, for sure.

Yes, it is. Always. If there are orchestral elements to a predominantly electronic idiom, he uses it as colourization, not as an end in itself. Zimmer has never composed synth music that 'pretends' it's orchestral.
Don't get me wrong, I love Zimmer at times. I'm actually a pretty big fan of his score for Blade Runner 2049. But sometimes, his music just feels so interchangeable and generic. I swear you could take half of what he has written, swap the scores or replace them with other music written by him and they would fit. Too much "sameness" from him at times.
I honestly feel that the movies are oversaturated with Zimmer and that Villeneuve could've easily picked a dozen composers more suited for Dune than Zimmer.
I'd like to see Revell back where is he, I really liked his effort maybe the best of the Dune franchise or equal too TOTO, i do love the original. Tyler was good also he's done other good work so no complaints if he returns interesting times someone new?
