Interesting choice, a lot of reviews praising the 80s synth-esque score. http://filmmusicreporter.com/2018/12/11/damon-albarns-electric-wave-bureau-scoring-joe-cornishs-the-kid-who-would-be-king/

Any word on a soundtrack release?

Here's my thread, which got one hit (Bill, having a pop)..
https://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=124486&forumID=1&archive=0
..and then this one, which, amazingly, got even less interest than mine!
Anyway.
Saw the film last night.
Great, for the first hour or so, but sadly, ran out of steam (badly) in the final third.
Enjoyable overall, but nothing to get hugely excited over (ATTACK THE BLOCK was much better to me).
The music is great. Electro/Orchestral score. Bold. Adventurous. Exciting. It's quite easy to spot the bits Matt Dunkley and co had a big hand in, but the whole thing is really enjoyable.
I think it's available as a download. I haven't heard or seen any CD release and the film's B.O performance won't help a CD release, although the Blur fella and his band might generate some interest.
Any thoughts?

Hey Kev,
I liked the film quite a lot, but I think they could have pretty much ended it where the kid comes back and home and finds his mom asleep and the have a heart to heart talk. The big finale, sometimes cute, goes on a bit much. But there is a lot to like about the film, good characters and some funny lines, and of course, Patrick Stewart. I like the big main theme for the film, the rest of it is a little beep and boopy for me, not a stand alone kind of score to me.

It seems a CD was eventually released. The US amazon says it's by Milan, the UK amazon says it's by "Classical".

https://www.amazon.com/Kid-Who-Would-Be-King/dp/B07NRFGF8K/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=the+kid+who+would+be+king&qid=1554133718&s=music&sr=1-1-catcorr

By the way, I like the music. (Haven't seen the film though.)

Hey...80s-style synth music? How come I missed this thread the first time around? I'll definitely check it out!

It's on Milan, in a proper jewel case, with notes by the director. Great score.

I heard some samples the other day, was gonna pick up the CD next payday. Sounds pretty sweet.

Hmmm. Listened to it on Spotify. It didn't 'wow' me very much, I'm afraid. A couple of decent tracks, but not what I had in mind at all.

Listened to half a dozen tracks. Aside from some repetitive acoustic guitar stuff, didn't care for it. This was very overrated.

I remember Chistophe Beck's name showing up online as the composer. Would have been more interesting for sure.

I had expected more electronics, but they were very discrete. So what was left was rather directionless material, IMO. With the recommendations here, and the name of the band, I had my hopes up for some awesome synthwave. Alas, there was none of that.

I love the Vangelis meets John Carpenter vibe going on in track one (Arthur's Theme - Album Mix).

I listened to this on Amazon Prime Music repeatedly yesterday. Love it!

I had no idea this score was a throwback to 80s synth scores, and the orchestral mixture was nice. I've never heard of this composing group (is it a group?), but I loved listening to this. Getting the CD for sure.

Now, I'll have to check out the film. A writer friend of mine tweeted positive things about it when it came out. He's usually spot on.

Thanks for the heads up!

EWB are a music collective, headed up by Damon Albarn, former frontman of Blur.
The other members are Mike Smith, Suzi Winstanley & Nelson De Freitas.
I think this is their 2nd film score.
The music really benefits from the arranging, orchestrating and conducting of Matt Dunkley.

Wow, that's one way to cover Christopher Cross.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for more of their stuff (could only find this soundtrack on Amazon).

I'm not a big electronics or "synth-esque" fan. I do like orchestras combined with electronics.

Anyway, this film is now playing on cable. It is far from perfect, but it does have its own sweet charm.

You can hear the full soundtrack on youtube now. My favorite track is Who Will Join Us especially from the 1:50 point on.
