Available now from Toro Records both digitally and on CD.

For woodwind soloist with choir, orchestra, and organ, this hour-long work by Chad Cannon explores ten paintings from the fantastical world of Japanese-Brazilian artist Oscar Oiwa. Nine of the paintings are paired with poems from Tibet/China, Nepal, Vietnam, Japan, India/Bangladesh, and the USA, most of which are reflections on calamities (war, natural disaster, political upheaval, environmental destruction, etc.) experienced by the authors themselves. Recorded by the Hollywood Studio Symphony with conductor Vladimir Kulenovic in Los Angeles, with Grammy-winning recording engineer Matthew Snyder, this album features LA Philharmonic clarinetist Andrew Lowy, Hollywood studio legendary woodwind soloist Chris Bleth, bass clarinetist Phil O'Connor, and tenor soloist James Onstad. The symphony choir was recorded in Salt Lake City under conductor Benjamin Salisbury.

Poets include Gyalpo Tsering (Tibet/China), Rabindranath Tagore (India/Bangladesh), Brian Turner (USA), Martha Serpas (USA), Yuyutsu Sharma (Nepal/India), Sam Sai Hkam (Kachin, Myanmar), Wago Ryoichi (Japan, with translation by Jeffrey Angles), Thich Nhat Hanh (Vietnam), and William Stafford (USA).

Domestic (US) shipping included in purchase. Includes 32-page, full-color, high-resolution booklet with prints of Oscar Oiwa’s paintings and all poetry.
