Director Robert D. Krzykowski comments on hiring composer Joe Kraemer.

"Getting Joe was a dream come true. I used to listen to his music in high school. I remember first hearing the score for The Way of the Gun, thinking that it felt stripped down and had a throwback feel, but a strange romantic quality to it. I kind of tracked his career, and as he progressed, his scores got more grand and more complex, but his heart was always there. When I did my short film, Elsie Hooper, I sent it to his reps on a whim, and they showed it to him, and Joe said, "I'll score this for you!" He did it for next to nothing, and we stayed in touch. He wanted to know what I was doing next, so I sent him the script. He read about twenty or thirty pages of it. He said he doesn't usually read the scripts, because he likes to be kind of the last editorial eye on the cut of the movie so that he can actually talk about it as a storyteller. Joe is a storyteller. He delivered this score that's just up there with David Shire, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, and Bernard Herrmann; we talked a lot about those people, and the score he delivered for this little film... I remember hearing a quote from Robert Zemeckis, that he had asked Alan Silvestri: "I didn't quite get the scope of the movie that I had in my head; can you make the movie as big as I imagined it being?" I think that's exactly what Joe's music does for this film."

Sounds very promising. I'm looking forward to sound samples.

I hope film music fans who enjoy the kind of films and scores I grew up with (i.e. Spielberg/Williams, Dante/Goldsmith, Coppola/Shire, Zemeckis/Spielberg, Darabont/Newman) will give this movie a look this weekend, in theaters if possible, on VOD if not.

Thanks!

Joe Kraemer

The trailer intrigued me quite a bit, Joe -- I'm going to see if I can talk the wife into it. smile

I would like to see it too.

This is what a critic said at Roger Ebert's site.

"and he hired Joe Kraemer to contribute a very John-Williams-redolent score."

Don't know if that statement is accurate, but I see being compared to the great John Williams as a supreme compliment.

That is one wacky title, but I looked it up out of curiosity and now I'm intrigued. Thanks for this thread!

The trailer was very flat but i'd be willing to give it a go off the title alone. Some good actors in there. It seems like it'd be a hard film to score. The idea seems bonkers.

It was supposed to come out this weekend, but I can't find it listed anywhere. Is it limited?

Well the spouse was out with friends and I figured I'd give this a watch with my dog. It's an excellent film, and Joe's score is excellent! Noticeable but in a good way. I hope this gets a CD release. I highly recommend this film.

In the X-men Universe "Logan" was a take on Old Man Logan.

For me this film felt like a much better version of Old Man Steve as in Captain America, if he was a real person. I loved everything about this film.

My deepest appreciation to all of you who took time this weekend to watch THE MAN WHO KILLED HITLER AND THEN THE BIGFOOT. Thanks to you, the film had a terrific opening weekend, especially on iTunes where it cracked several top ten charts.

Thanks again!

Joe

I have just watched this movie. Both movie and score are fantastic! based on the title I was expecting a campy B-movie but it was basically a touching drama - with some B-movie touches here or there.

As for the score, a wonderful effort by Joe Kraemer. It would be nice if one of our labels could release it on CD. I would be the first to buy it.

I'm still wondering if Ryan's dog enjoyed it.

No complaints, was on the couch for the whole thing. Usually if he's unimpressed he puts himself to bed:

Had to look twice to see him. Cute little critic, er, critter.

Sorry, Joe, but this thread’s about the dog now. Just go with it.

(Actually, very happy that there’s going to be a cd, as will all my fellow dinosaurs.)
