Here's an article from Variety (published March 27, 2018, with the byline Jem Aswad) that may provide some insight to what is happening with third party labels. White it seems to focus on the Sony Legacy label, I think it indicates where the company is going with its record catalog. Here's just one paragraph of the article, and you'll find the link below. "Yet Legacy, which is housed within Sony’s Commercial Music Group under the direction of president Richard Story, is also staffing up in the digital space, with nine new roles and more likely to come. The source tells Variety that the company felt renewed urgency in realizing it did not have sufficient staffers specializing in deep catalog, streaming, marketing and analytics. The insider stressed that the company will continue to release lavish boxed sets and other physical product, but it has moved to correct that imbalance." https://variety.com/2018/music/news/sony-music-overhauls-legacy-label-to-adapt-to-streaming-world-exclusive-1202736691/

Interesting article, thanks Michael. Especially in regards to the move away from physical product. If it's related to us, as it seems, I would guess the move has more to do with streamlining their new effort overall rather than simply cutting loose third parties who "still do discs." If the studios don't put their own money on the line for these releases anyway, as they don't, it doesn't seem as likely Disc v. Download would matter much. It's probably what was already suggested in this thread: new people have come in and want to start clean. I'm curious to see if things go back to normal once they've transitioned. If that's indeed the cause of this.

It's been 13 months since MV let us know about the letter Sony Music sent out to the labels. Would anyone in the industry like to chime in to say if there's been any change in their policy, or any news from Sony Music related to this situation at all? It's also been 13 months since both MV and Roger specifically mentioned that LLL and Intrada each had two Sony Music titles pending that got approved before the letter was sent out. Would either label head like to mention anything about whether or not those are still in the works?
