Here's what I wrote before I posted it on youtube:

Such a great theme and score by Michel Legrand. When I think of Legrand I immediately recall BRIAN'S SONG. Has any label attempted to put this out? I mean of course the Original TV-Movie Film Score. I'd gobble it up in a flash. I made a CDR Rip from the DVD once of all the music and it would I think make a great 30 minutes at least if I remember correctly. I have to find my CDR and I think I may have enhanced it with some cover versions of the Main Theme "The Hands of Time". Who'd be on board for this?

I still cherish the LP that features the Main Theme and is called Michel Legrand "BRIAN'S SONG" THEMES AND VARIATIONS. It has the BS Main Theme and other Movie Themes by Legrand.

Found my BRIAN'S SONG Score rip on an old itunes file. 18 cues edited continuously into a 19 minute suite. Some short cues, some longer. Nice amount of theme in variations and some more dramatic scoring. Think Jerry Goldsmith's BABE: THE BABE DIDRIKSON ZAHARIAS STORY.

I believe both movies BRIAN'S SONG and BABE DIDRIKSON were directed by Buzz Kulik who worked with Goldsmith on several projects. Interesting to think that Goldsmith very well could have scored BRIAN'S SONG based on his relationship with director Kulik. But perhaps "Two famous Sports/Athletic people dying of cancer" stories may have been too close for Jerry to do both. Fascinating though.

I'll try to get my 19 minute Suite of Legrand's BRIAN'S SONG Score audio up on youtube tomorrow for you all to enjoy.

Here's a pleasant John Tesh version of the Theme to hold you over. Quite nice.

Indeed Buzz Kulik did direct both BRIAN'S SONG (1971) and BABE (DIDRICKSON) (1975)

He also directed the following titles that were Goldsmith scored:

WARNING SHOT (1967)
CRAWLSPACE TV-Movie (1972)
SHAMUS (1973)

and

PLAYHOUSE 90 Episode "To the Sound of Trumpets"

HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL Episode "The Fatalist"

and episodes of DR. KILDARE and CAIN'S HUNDRED

I have the Bell LP too. I'd love to get it on CD, but the only CD release came in 2004 from Japan. It's now OOP and going for big bucks.

I'd certainly love to see a new release of the original Brian's Song score. I used to have that LP back in the 70s but swopped it for something and have missed it ever since, damn! It's a wonderful film too but never comes up on TV nowadays. A release of the original score would be most welcomed Zoob!

The dreaded Bell Records. I've mentioned this on other threads. Brian's Song, Bob, Carol, Ted, and Alice, Cactus Flower, and Nicholas and Alexandra are all on Bell. No cd releases.

Here's my compiled suite from the DVD of BRIAN'S SONG featuring all of Michel Legrand's score as heard in the movie accompanied by dialogue and featuring images from the TV-Movie. It gives you a good sense of what the score would be like on a CD. Hope you enjoy!

And now, with the recent Sony Music policy change, no possibility of being licensed by anyone for release.

So what's the story? Is the score confirmed lost or why it has never been released? Half a century is probably more than enough for any label to do this if there is a way...

I never liked this tune. I particularly don't like the flatted 7th in bar 7. It sounds forced.

Classic theme. Beautiful score. A release of the film tracks would be most welcome, perhaps combined with another Legrand score. The film itself is regarded by many as one of the best TV movies of all-time.
