...I'm wondering if any of the labels might be actively looking for the stereo master for this! I'm listening to the Prometheus release, and was thinking that, while the sound on this is pretty good, the details that the stereo tapes would reveal would be amazing!

So hope this happens. One of my favorite gritty early Goldsmith scores. As much as I love it I just can’t listen to the mix between stereo and mono. Kills the enjoyment.

I thought one of the Prometheus discs was the stereo album program, while the other disc with the full score was all mono.

I don’t remember it being a 2 disc set though I could be wrong.

The most recent release on Prometheus was a 2 disc set, with the complete score in mono on one disc and the album program in stereo on the other, just as I described. Previous releases were just of the album program in stereo. As far as I know there was no release that switched between mono and stereo sources on the same disc.

Right Yavar... just pulled my copy and checked. Still hate mono... no matter how good the mastering is my ears need it in stereo!

I love stereo but thankfully I don't suffer from that affliction which prevents me from enjoying mono. wink

I still remember the Channel Four (UK) continuity announcer's introductory words to a showing of this movie: 'Action, disaster and some unexpected musical entertainment...'

I think I understand what he was getting at.

Incidentally, was the vocal version of Goldsmith's "It's All a Game" (lyrics by Hal Shaper) ever released? Many Thanks.
