and a song by Bruce Broughton.

If this was the case with Rota, why did they not revoke Bill Conti's Oscar win for THE RIGHT STUFF? It featured music from his THE WHITE DAWN score which was not Original for THE GODFATHER. Rota got revoked for THE GODFATHER because his Theme for that was originally used in his score for FORTUNELLA.

IMHO Goldsmith should have won over Conti, for UNDER FIRE that year of THE RIGHT STUFF.

The song by Bruce Broughton was rejected by the The Academy was the fact Broughton was sending CDs of his song to Oscar Members. Which was a big No!

You answered the story about Nina Rota who had already wrote The Godfather Theme at a much faster pace in 1958 film Fortunella...which Rota slowed it down.

As far as Bill Conti winning...who Knows on that...while John Williams The Return Of the Jedi was up and Jerry Goldsmith’s Under Fire...an excellent score by Goldsmith.

The majority of Oscar Voters are not hipped on what is real..or what is what..they see a name, or their maid see a name or pool guy ...and just votes. Even Bill Conti has said in interviews how he would write music for The Right Stuff, And Kaufman would Tell him to write closer to what was tempt on the editing phase.

John Barry was hired? To compose The Right Stuff, But was off quickly when Philip Kaufman started acting weird. About desert sand and a rock!

Oh my, you are correct sir. Conti definitely didn't write that, but it was used in the film. Did they just track the Mancini Cues in or did Conti have to re-orchestrate or rerecord them?

Thanks for the correction JC!

And so half the Oscar actually should go to Mancini then, right?

The Academy is so confused.

I can't tell you how many times I almost smashed my damned TV screen in when the obvious choices for ORIGINAL score didn't win. Of course I was REALLY PISSED OFF when Goldsmith didn't win for Under Fire, but there's nothing you can do about it now...or so the GERMANS would have us believe...........................

Where did Mancini get his white dawn from?

But this has been discussed from time to time about how music of Conti sounds like others from The Right Stuff.

Jim, I actually have an audio cassette tape of me watching the actual broadcast and screaming at the TV when Conti was announced instead of Goldsmith. Got to find it in storage for sure. I'm crying "No, No, No!" It's pretty funny.

Actually, funny you should mention that, because I ALSO recorded that segment, and when they announced Conti's name, all of a sudden you hear on the cassette, "GODAMMIT!!!! MOTHER FUC*ER!" I yelled it so loud that TWO things happened... the sound on the cassette distorted, and my stepmother called down to me, "WHAT ON EARTH?!?!" big grinbig grinbig grinbig grin

We must find them Jim and post them to youtube. That would be so funny. Come to think of it, I think I used some explicit language too. I think I also have one expressing outrage when Giorgio Moroder beat out Goldsmith(BOYS FROM BRAZIL), Williams(SUPERMAN), Morricone(DAYS OF HEAVEN) and Grusin(HEAVEN CAN WAIT) with MIDNIGHT EXPRESS.
