Alien 3 is hugely underrated. It's strange that all those horror aficionados have such an issue with Newt's and Bishop's deaths and are so very negative about it as bad choices or insensitivities. It is supposed to be a horror film, and when something horrible happens, the horror lovers object ?! Besides that, the design of the film is epic and makes it a piece truly on its own. It is on the tail end of the trend, started in the 80s, to use 1950s and 1960s interiors, clothing, spectacles and some other elements to create a completely different vibe. Yes it was like a lead blanket and while it was nowhere near an assault as "Resurection" was, I was worn out after the film as its atmosphere was very invasive and stayed with me for days. It is a film that must be experienced in cinema for maximum effect and when it achieves it, it goes deeply under the skin. It is a really good film. D.S.
