I remember seeing this in the Movie Theaters before the film was released and thinking it was so cool. Just love the layout of it and I always liked the posters that featured little Character photo Boxes. Like CAPRICORN ONE, THE SWARM, EARTHQUAKE, THE TOWERING INFERNO etc.

I was lucky to grab a SUPERMAN II Teaser Poster on ebay for a good price just last week.

What do you all think of it? Thanks.

For the release poster, they decided that Christopher Reeve shouldn't be relegated to a little box while the faces of the villains were prominent, so they put his image up top and only showed the backs of the villains.

I actually prefer the top poster more... though the movie sucks! I didn't THINK it sucked when it first came out, but man... I now know what is meant when some people talk a about film "not aging well"!

And The World Trade Center too.

Rest in Peace Christopher Reeve and all the innocent souls that lost their lives.

I notice that the tagline changed from describing the film as "the ultimate confrontation" to the more hyperbolic "cosmic battle for world supremacy." (Isn't that a contradiction in terms? Why would a cosmic battle be concerned with supremacy on a single measly world?)

The new Zod and Superman sure made a mess of New York and killed thousands in that atrocity called MAN OF STEEL.

Thank God that was just a movie.

That poster is a spoiler!!! wink

I too like the top poster, nice teaser. Though I don't think the final poster really accomplished their goal with a postage stamp size image of Reeves in the middle.

Yeah the film is dreadful. Starts with a lone nuclear missile Sup's re-directs into the vastness of space just happens to collide with the Forbidden Zone thingy which could've been floating in any direction and billions of light year away . Talk about winning the lottery!

And Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando always got TOP Billing over Reeve.

I mean Reeve WAS Superman. They should have at least done a Steve McQueen / Paul Newman
TOWERING INFERNO kind of thingy for it. McQueen goes first but Newman is higher.

Staggered but high and low billing is I think what it became when the two main Stars should be equally acknowledged. Did Shatner and Nimoy ever battle this out on the Star Trek Features? I think Shatner always got the First spot, but Nimoy go 50 bucks more on his Per Diem Checks.

The main character (actor) should get top billing but that's not how Hollywood rolls.
You got bigger stars with even bigger egos who demand top billing, or you have studios that want to sell a film based on bigger names in the movie.

I've never liked that staggered approach in opening credits. Actors should just been adult about it and decide top billing by coin toss.

I find it kind of normal that Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman got first billing over Christopher Reeve.

Never seen the first version but I like it. It looks truly ominous and unsettling. It is almost completely contrary to the more easy going film (which I still love).
They should have left out the other photos, then it really would have been a mature haunting pamphlet.

That was almost the case in Back to the Future Part II, although "Granted, that's a worse case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy."

  • The new Zod and Superman sure made a mess of New York and killed thousands in that atrocity called MAN OF STEEL.

I've always believed in this simple credo: If Superman is in trouble... RUN. Don't look, just RUN. We've got... something. I AIN'T SAYIN' WHAT IT IS, just trust me...

That was the one bright spot of Superman II. Early on in the battle Clark realized the danger to the civilians and purposely lead the villains away from the city.

Never seen all of Man of Steel. Watching some of the videos in that link I find the levitation bit weird. Yes, he can levitate but Superman never had to think about it. It's not like if he doesn't put effort into levitating he'll fall. So he can fall out of bed in his sleep like the rest of us I guess!

Yup, as usual, I am one of the more annoyingly contrary voices: I - LOVE - this film. Even today. The theatrical cut is a wonderful continuation and it was a huge success among my friends back in the day. Some reviewers even preferred it to the original. I didn't, but i still really enjoy it.

I really don't like the Donner Cut, but feel a mash up edit of both would make an even better film.

I have a preference for the second poster because that's the one I remember most and was on the LP, which I still have.

I'm joining you in total support of the theatrical version of this movie - I love it, just as much as the original movie!
