What's up with the "echoplex"-style versions of "The Asteroid Field" and "The Battle in the Snow" from the newest Shawn Murphy remaster of The Empire Strikes Back?

Sounds like both those tracks were finalized, run through the 44.1kHz/16-bit optical jack-fed processor of a mid-range home audio amplifier, then output for compact disc.

I wondered that myself. I really would like for ESB and the rest of the original trilogy to get the same treatment that Superman: The Movie has just gotten. Is there any reason that ESB shouldn't consistently sound similar to STM quality-wise? Same conductor, same orchestra, same recording facility, same recording engineer, both recorded on 24-track 2-inch in the same machine...

Wise I have been, taking the early (2016) download of ANH and TESB on the early Qobuz version, the remastering were perfect !!!

Gripes about the two Empire cues aside, I thought Murphy's mix and mastering of the original Star Wars (A New Hope) tracks are, minor quibbles aside, superb.

Did I miss something in the score news? Why is everyone talking about STAR WARS soundtracks all of a sudden????

The reason everyone is talking of the Star Wars scores is that the recent remaster of Superman has stirred up hope that Mike Matessino will one day work his technical wizardry on these scores, particularly the original trilogy.

Somehow I've always assumed that anything owned by Disney is out of reach for any other label and professional willing to dig up and restore. So the idea of a similar work on the classic Star Wars trilogy didn't even cross my mind.

I started this thread (1): because the difference in sound fidelity between the two tracks aforementioned from The Empire Strikes Back strikes me as very odd, considering the importance of the cues and the drastic difference in sound quality between the two tracks and the stellar remaster quality of the rest of the newest Disney Empire album; and (2): because I thought it might be useful to have a "spoke" thread featuring kudos and gripes for this latest album series.

Intrada works with Disney pretty regularly, but I think it is pretty unlikely that Disney will license out the Star Wars scores to anyone.

I really hope you're wrong. Not only would it be great for we the fans, but they could make some money as well.
