Speaking of Invaders from Mars... I've ALWAYS wanted to hear that "avant garde" score Young wrote.... can anyone point me to it on youtube???
If you ain't ready for Forbidden Planet, then you ain't ready for Invaders from Mars.
Them two are outright classics.. when I listen to Dawn of the Dead I think of it as an xperimental score & still so much music missing I want it badly. Scanners/Shore is another fine example.

Intrada released it some years ago ( http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.5867/.f ), and it's actually one of my favorite releases. Yes, I absolutely love the score(s). But since Christopher Young's first score (Young wrote also more traditional, orchestral music for the film) IS a very experimental avant-garde score, it's probably not for everybody.
Related to this, does anyone know the first score to use the "superball" rubbed across a cymbal? I'm sure it must be a horror or suspense film of some sort, but the first two I'm aware of are Raiders of the Lost Ark and ET.
I'm sure I would've preferred a lush 1950s orchestral score, but I like the way "Forbidden Planet" currently sounds. It was certainly the first title that popped in my head when thinking of "experimental" scores.
I definitely didn't want a "lush" Alex North score, but one that didn't distract the hell out of me while watching the movie. The music for the Id monster's invisible approach and footprints was good, but the score takes me out of the movie in more scenes than it aids it.
