The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - it's a really fun score right from the first track. I even like the faux Victorian song.
THIS!!. Always surprised this isn't given more love. Rousing brilliant score. Yes there's a bit of 'filler' stuff but those action moments and catchy main theme always bring me back to it. Really good unreleased track as well when they are driving through the streets of Venice.
I usually go for DESPERATE MEASURES, FROM HELL or ARACHNOPHOBIA. I'd probably like/play ANGEL HEART and MISSISSIPPI BURNING more if it wasn't for the dialogue included.
The head says Dark Crystal, but man oh man is the heart screaming Labyrinth. I've never been able to tell entirely how much of it's Bowie and how much of it's Jones - the score incorporates song melodies left and right, and even some of the themes that aren't from the songs can be traced back to Bowie's album "Tonight" from a few years prior - but whoever deserves the credit, what a fantastic album.
The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth are great, but I prefer Cliffhanger, or From Hell, personally. Dark City is great as is Mississippi Burning. Wow, he's done so many great works...just why isn't he working right now??

I have to say that while I love most of his big works - Crystal, Mohicans, Merlin, Darky City, etc - a lot of his most recent work has left me entirely cold. I wonder if for some people, that spark of inspiration just eventually fizzles out. When I try listening to his documentary and tv scores from half a decade ago, I just hear the faint glimmer of the guy who wrote Merlin but with none of the juice.
I remember liking The Last Place On Earth - I have it on LP, not sure if it's been released on CD - and I really enjoy Arachnophobia (even the Shirley Walker/Poltergeist bits). Although I'm not saying they're better than Dark Crystal or The Mighty. Just chattin bubbles really.

Yes, it was released on CD, but now super-rare. It's a great score -- one of my Jones favourites, but totally overlooked, of course. I also have fond, nostalgic memories of seeing the series on TV back in the 80s.
