Thanks for the well wishes Graham and Caliburn I'll tell you what I do love about my Spanish holidays. The Bum Baths. Have you got a bum bath Graham? Nah Kev. I live in the northwest. Hick country. We shit in the woods, like the pope.

Haha, I hope it's well away from your vineyards Manon des. I've been in Benalmadena this week, so a bit away from the main Malaga film music party, but I descend tonight for the 80's concert. I think the first half is stuff like Gremlins, Goonies and Last Starfighter, and then it's a celebration of Robert Folk's super stuff. Canna wait.

Despite some minor flubbage and back screen/wrong picture fubar's, the first half was pretty brilliant. Last Starfighter nearly made me cry. Blade Runner was brilliant. Gremlins stacks of fun and Ghostbusters reminded me of Johnny Depp running around France looking for an old book. Next up. Robert Folk...in person. Live on stage. Wow! More at 11-00.

Trapped in Paradise was the encore. Robert Folk conducted the final few suites. A lengthy one for There Be Dragons, Ace Ventura 2 Africa and the encore. He accepted his Mosma award and thanked everyone for coming. He also said that when he left Julliard and headed to Hollywood to compose for films, he had to thank Bill Conti, John Barry and Lionel Newman for helping him get started in the biz. Overall it was a cool show, despite the horns and brass sometimes sounding like the Battle Beyond the Stars orchestra. All very 80's I suppose

Flight of the Navigator was shown on the back screen*, but I think it may have been Labyrinth that was playing during that bit (I'm not familiar with Labyrinth). I don't recall hearing Silvestri's music during the electronic suite, only Big Trouble in Little China, Labyrinth? and Tron. The full Folk set was, Toy Soldiers suite (classic stuff) Neverending Story 2 suite (sublime) Police Academy suite (smile inducing) There Be Dragons (unfamiliar to me, but quite impressive) Ace Ventura 2 (sadly missing the love theme) encore, Trapped in Paradise (it was 33° at 11-00 o clock and we had Christmas music!! * Karate Kid played while we saw Batteries not Included on the back screen and vice versa.

I thought the first half of the concert - not conducted by Debney - was much stronger than the 2nd Debney conducted half. Maybe it was just the title choices were more favourable to me (Zathura, Elf, Hocus Pocus, Dream House, Ant Bully, Bruce Almighty, Greatest Showman* and Lair** The second half did have some decent stuff (Orville, Jungle Book, Cutthroat Island, Evan Almighty, which Debney bizarrely kept calling Bruce Almighty and the encore, Passion of the Christ), but some things like Princess Diaries and Stonehurst Asylum just passed me by. *bit of a cheat, that one, as it's mainly the song melodies, not by Debney, people know it for. **Absolutely stunning suite and performance.

Debney gave a short introduction to the pieces he conducted during the second half of the concert. My favourite quotes: On Passion of the Christ when he presented some demos to Mel Gibson: "He thought it had a good beat." On Cutthroat Island: "Remember that was well before Pirates of the Carribean. We feel that's what pirate music should sound like."
