Thinking of Hal Blaine and I hear the iconic bomp-bomp-bomp-bomp of his kick drum leading off the 4-time Grammy winning Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass arrangement of “A Taste of Honey”—the first of six consecutive Grammy Award Record of the Year winners Blaine worked on!
Blaine really left his mark—literally, he had a rubber stamp made and imprinted on the wall of many drum booths: Hal Blaine strikes again!
Brian Wilson said it: "Hal Blaine was such a great musician and friend that I can't put it into words," Wilson said in a tweet that included an old photo of him and Blaine sitting at the piano. "Hal taught me a lot, and he had so much to do with our success — he was the greatest drummer ever."
A huge proportion of the popular songs I loved best in the 60s and 70s featured Hal Blaine on the drums, although I didn't know that until later. Very sad to hear of his passing -- RIP Hal, you were the best!

I was a drummer and didn't know his name. Nobody knew Dennis Wilson didn't play on many records. We all thought he was the best drummer in the world!
This is one I was really dreading. Bad enough to lose Joe Osborn in December--now this. The world has lost the finest rhythm section that pop music ever saw.
