Royal Albert Hall presents

Settling the Score
David Arnold vs Michael Giacchino

Join us for a night of award-winning film and TV music from legendary composers, David Arnold and Michael Giacchino, as they strike up the orchestra and go into symphonic battle, comparing and colliding on their impressive back catalogue of music.

Confirming his position as one of the biggest figures in film and TV music, Michael Giacchino stakes his claim to the stage with music from award-winning scores for The Incredibles, Star Trek, Up, Ratatouille, Lost and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Rising to the challenge, David Arnold, best known for his epic Bond soundtracks as well as Independence Day, Godzilla, Stargate, Sherlock and upcoming TV series Good Omens, proves himself a worthy rival and equal to the very best composers.

This epic evening will include music, storytelling, challenges of wit and friendly competition. The concert will feature highlights from the composers’ most iconic scores, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and conductor Gavin Greenaway.

The two composers have been having a fun feud on Twitter, and here's some excerpts:

I ask you, does this image of @DavidGArnold NOT look like the portrait of a super-villain who would try to mind control me from across the pond? With his magic guitar, perhaps?

@DavidGArnold 23 hours ago:

Replying to @m_giacchino
You’ll notice I dont have a magic hat .... I do it the old fashioned way ..... throwing wing of bat and eye of toad into a cauldron til smoke and cgi music comes out

What a weird match-up!
That Williams vs Zimmer thing has got a lot to answer for.
But hey, it's promoting our 'niche' music and bringing it out of the darkness smile

Is this a real thing? David Arnold would kick Giacchino's ass easily. How is this even an event? Giacchino, just like his music, is completely in treble.

I'd like to see Herrmann vs Fielding.
Now THAT'S a Celebrity Death Match that would be intense!!

I wish Arnold would get back with Dodd or whatever the hell is stopping him from working on the next Bond. I hated how deep he went into the electronics, but I'd still prefer him over Newman (who is great, but SPECTRE was terrible).

Can we make it Herrmann vs Desplat? My money is on Herrmann annihilating the prissy Desplat.

I'd attend an Arnold concert in a New York sec. I wouldn't go to a Giacchino concert if you paid me. So not contest here, really. But I agree with those who said that these 'versus' angles are really bizarre in the first place.

I am still in the dark if it is a concert with only their music, or if they are planning to attend the concert themselves. Is there any news on that?

What? It’s just a bit of fun and adding to the anticipation of what looks like will be a great night.
Really looking forward to it.
