Hey all... Are the more recent Superman score soundtracks basically a reissue of the box set a few years ago? This confuses me a bit because the box set had 2 cds for each movie but it seems like these newer releases have 3. Do these new releases have more tracks or are they the same?
Well, the Blue Box wasn't two discs per film. It broke down like this....
Superman - 2 CDs Superman II - 1 CD Superman III - 1 CD Superman IV - 2 CDs Animated series - 1 CD Extras, alternates and various stuff - 1 CD Large hard cover book
The new LLL editions have as-good or better sound quality. These are great for those who don't want all four scores.
The third disc in this new set is the original album assembly.
There’s also some newly discovered alternate music that is quite fascinating. So, yes there is “new” music on this set. Plus the new sound mix is unbelievable.
Aside from that it is almost identical to the 2-disc version from the blue box.

... and Superman is 3 CDs now, because that 3rd CD is a remaster (actually a total "re-creation") of the original LP program.
And as far as sound is concerned, for II, III and IV Lalaland and Blue Box should sound identical, while 1 is a new master from first generation sources.
