Oh my gosh, I love his solo work. This is bad news, indeed.

RIP Scott. Such a unique songwriter/musician. His score for Pola X was truly magnificent.

RIP Scott. Such a unique songwriter/musician. His score for Pola X was truly magnificent. I still can't get over this. He was up there with Penderecki as far as being intensely imaginative. Even his early solo work had some fascinating dissonances. He is missed by me, very much.

Agree, the last album heard was "Drift" and found it unlistenable; tried to like it but no, too dark and unmelodic. However everything up to "Climate of Hunter" was superb. Realize he was trying to push musical limits with atonal stuff and in certain way succeeded but not for my taste. Scott through Scott 4 were superb. His Brel album was unequaled / RIP Scott. Well I didn't like his new stuff at all, what I heard of it, but then I grew up listening to The Walker Brothers & his solo stuff.

I love 30 Century Man and highly recommend it. Drift is my favorite album by Scott. I'm not wild about what he did with the Walker Bros...I can see where he got interested in doing more interesting things, because WB were pretty run of the mill imo (even the band name). There were a couple of things he wrote during their reunion that were good imo. Scott Walker was for me entirely the avante garde side of his solo work and the thing he did with the band Sunn ))) ...or however the heck you spell that name. Like all avante garde music, it wasn't meant to be liked, just patiently appreciated.
