WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17

STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC---Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy was asked if the video game might be developed as a movie, "...We talk about that all the time. Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now I have no idea where things might fall, but we have to be careful that there is a cadence to STAR WARS that doesn't start to feel like too much. We don't have a crystal ball, you know. We tried a little bit with SOLO [: A STAR WARS STORY] to see if we could do two movies a year and whether or not there was really an opportunity for that and we felt that's not going to work so we backed off that a little bit. But it doesn't mean we don't think about lots of different stories because that's the exciting thing about this universe."

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER----JJ Abrams commented on if THE RISE OF SKYWALKER will divulge Rey's parents, “I will say that we knew, going into this, that this movie, it had to be a satisfying conclusion. And we were well aware that that’s one of the things that’s been out there. I don’t want to say that what happens in Episode 8 [didn’t happen]. We have honored that. But I will say that there’s more to the story than you’ve seen.”

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI---Tom Kane, the voice for Admiral Ackbar in THE LAST JEDI, said he is unhappy about how Ackbar was killed off, "I've been Ackbar now for about six years... I was not really thrilled with how they blew him out the side of the ship". Kane also questioned the role of Vice Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern), “I’m like, ‘Who is this Holdo woman? Nobody knows her, no one’s invested in her — who is she? Why is she saving the fleet?’ If anyone was gonna save the fleet it’d be Ackbar".

Also, Mark Hamill was asked by a fan if Luke Skywalker died a virgin in THE LAST JEDI. Hamill replied, "Make up your own backstory. It's undetermined, but in the one I made for him myself, the answer is: no."

COMING TO AMERICA 2---a source said Eddie Murphy will return as Prince Akeem in the sequel, and he will also play the villain, General Izzi, "the warlike ruler of 'Nextdoooria,' an adjacent nation suffering from extreme poverty. He wants to gain power in Zamunda and will do almost anything to achieve it."

MacGYVER---showrunner Peter Lenkov said Peter Weller (ROBOCOP) will be the villain, Mason, in the Season 3 finale, “Ultimately, all roads are going to lead to Peter Weller being his Big Bad who - and I think it was Lucas Till who came up with this - is basically a ‘bad MacGyver’. He’s someone who has the same head as Macgyver, the same skills but he uses it for nefarious purposes.”

MARVEL STUDIOS---AVENGERS: ENDGAME co-director Joe Russo commented on future Marvel movies, "The future of these movies will be an inclusive one. Diversity, both in front of and behind the camera, will be its gold standard."

SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN---Travis Wright (BUMBLEBEE) will direct the Mark Wahlberg movie based on the ABC tv series that starred Lee Majors.

SLEEPING BEAUTIES---Stephen King and his son, Owen, will write the script for the AMC tv pilot based on their novel.

OKLAHOMA!---Skydance Television contemporary tv series is underway based on the Broadway musical.

BRAVE NEW WORLD---Alden Ehrenreich (SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY) will play John the Savage in the USA Network tv pilot based on the novel.

UTOPIA---John Cusack will play Dr. Kevin Christie in the Amazon/Gillian Flynn remake of the British series.

TRIVIA---in Ray Harryhausen's EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS, the flying saucer's ray gun sinks the Navy destroyer USS Franklin Edison. In reality, the movie shows actual combat film footage of the Royal Navy battleship HMS Barham exploding after being torpedoed by the Nazi U-boat U-331 off the Egyptian coast in World War II. The Barham's magazines exploded, killing 862 members of its crew.

That was the whole point. It's why Poe started the insurrection.

Demolition Man is a very self-aware movie that does not need a remake. It's deliciously tongue-in-cheek and I never want to see a serious or, worse yet, "gritty" take on it.

"Who is this Holdo woman? Nobody knows her, no one’s invested in her — who is she? Why is she saving the fleet?’

I'm sure those questions were shouted at every cineplex ceiling in the world by millions of disillusioned Star Wars worshippers.

"This Holdo woman" will be known as the Star Wars character that lured Jim Phelps back from The Twilight Zone.

Welcome back, Mr. Phelps.

Of those "bad movies", 2 I did enjoy and were not bad, but perhaps borderline great and were considered by many disappointing due to their potential of being so much better

Reign of Fire - an epic story if there ever was one but many wanted more big action scenes and many questions left unanswered.

Timecop - for me, this was Van Damme best, most polished movie.

But NONE of these films are screaming for a remake, save perhaps LEAGUE, simply for the fact that it is a comic book movie and am sure the studio execs would love to see another franchise.

National Treasure is a really fun movie. Yeah it's dumb, but it's the very definition of a popcorn flic.
I also liked Hancock and LOEG (though the last act was disappointing).

If you want garbage movies that deserves remakes I can give you a list a mile long. Transformers series, Star Wars series, Star Trek series...

That is ScreenRant- it is idiotic nerd drivel. No, none of those need a remake, zero. I have to confess I enjoy National Treasure, it is not Citizen Kane or anything, but entertaining puff, and Jumper is actually a lot better than you would think it is, or the reviews would suggest. Hayden is better here than he was in Star Wars. Extraordinary Gentlemen is not what I would call a good movie, but it is more entertaining than it should be, and it has Connery, not worth an expensive remake.

Yeah, that remake list is completely off. Films like WATERWORLD (one of my favourite 90s films), DEMOLITION MAN or NATIONAL TREASURE are fine just the way they are.

Timecop- No need for a remake. Jean-Claude Van Damme best performance.

The Cannonball Run is fine the way it is. No need to reake this either.

There's NO WAY Hollywood could re-make DEMOLITION MAN as much fun as the original is.
And can you imagine the sonic vomit we would get, over Goldenthal's enthralling original!!

I've seen all of them bar 4, 6 and 10. Absolutely agreed with Thor here. Demolition Man in particular is great!

By the way, waiting for your opinion on Spurs' victory last night in the football thread, Thor!

"Confused You even MORE will be!"

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER----JJ Abrams commented on if THE RISE OF SKYWALKER will divulge Rey's parents, “I will say that we knew, going into this, that this movie, it had to be a satisfying conclusion. It's just going to be a remake of Return of the Jedi just JJ did with episode 7 which almost exactly like episode IV

Another vote for NATIONAL TREASURE being just fine. I enjoyed it a lot. I didn't even mind the sequel.

I can give you a much longer list of the movies that shouldn't have been remade--starting with the most recent, HELLBOY.

Right? What a fun movie. First film I took my then-future-wife to.
