Back when I went to theaters to see movies with any regularity, I stayed to hear the end credits score. But with the score in the fifteen years, I can't say that would ever happen again. But seeing as I probably see one or two movies a year (no movies in probably two or three years), I am spared this. But there have been times I had to bail. Like the Godawful songs for "Matrix: Revolutions". Makes Chinese water torture seem like a pleasant massage.

I stay for the music, but also for the post-credit sequences, which I first noticed at a press screening of THE MISSION. After that, I stayed out of added curiosity. LITTLE BUDDAH had a powerful moment after the credits. PRICILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT had a hilarious moment. L.A.CONFIDENTIAL had a mini-movie. YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES had an extended filmed credit sequence, with a twisty surprise ending. Sadly, when these films are shown on cable, they rush the end credits, and cut them iff before any added sequence can be seen. As for people getting up to leave early, I first remember seeing that at the roadshow showing of CLEOPATRA that I saw at the Rivoli Theater in New York in 1963.
