I agree with you, Scott. I do see Ado's point about these movies being "light entertainment" or popcorn flicks, but I also enjoy and agree with the social issues that are dovetailed into the plots.

Well, considering I actually know people who are inspired and feel empowered by these characters (one is an adult black fella and more than one girl who has felt slighted her whole life), I'm gonna disagree. Whether you think it's manufactured or not, they have these feelings and I don't have the right to tell them not to. Nobody does.

Get your inspiration where you can find it. It may not be important to you, but it is to them.

When your indoctrinated into a cult you'll buy into any narrative spoon fed to you. (and by you I don't me you)

One person's cult is another person's religion. As long as it's giving them hope and inspiration, it's all good.

Avengers: Endgame isn't worth taking the effort to issue a spoiler, or beat anyone up for issuing a spoiler on it.

Infinity War was far better.

I don't mean to be argumentative with you, you've been quite tolerant of my responses which I know can come off abrasive, but when the ideology is based off of falsehoods and tearing down some in other to build up others its not good. I'll leave it there.

I can't find any sympathy for an asshole that walks out of a theater and screams out details of the movie people are just about to see, ruining peoples' evenings.

Me either. If it were possible to beat the asses of internet trolls, there would be much less of that behavior going on. He tried it in real life and faced the consequences. Good work, genius. Next time think of the golden rule. It's as simple as that.

People have a lot more to be upset about than a stupid movie. No one should be physical assaulted for spoiling a movie and who exactly decides who's a troll?

Excellent question! Trolls are people who derive perverse pleasure from harassing/pissing off others. They decide to be a troll through their actions, contributing nothing worthwhile. I couldn't care less about the Marvel universe, but I'm sick of people getting off on harassment. It's everywhere online and I'm glad this guy learned that doing it in real life ends in pain. His "fuck you" attitude brought him what he deserved. Be a decent person. End of story.

It's not personal toward me, it's a discussion. You've been cool and reasonable the whole time. You usually are.

Maybe I'm ignorant of some incidents or aspects of this (I do tend to mind my own business), but all I'm really responding to are the characters themselves as portrayed in the films and how some groups, which are usually under-represented, now have people to identity with in high profile, heroic roles.

This pretty much, for me, leaves out actors with an axe to grind or a film studio who pummels the message down throats with ads. Captain Marvel's promos, for example, stress the HER in HERO. But the film itself don't call a lot of attention to it and even my wife didn't see it as more than a fun action film with a good female lead.

The "girl power" scene in Endgame WAS a tad obvious, especially in comparison to a more subtle and fun scene in Infinity War.

As for female role models, honestly, I do prefer Ellen Ripley: no powers, just a ballsy and brave personality. Smart, tough and still sensitive. A very well rounded character.

Anyways, we derailed the hell out of this. big grin
