GAME OF THRONES---cinematographer Fabian Wagner refuted fan complaints that he filmed "The Long Night" episode too dark. Wagner attributed the complaints to fans having the wrong tv settings or watching the episode on mobile devices, “A lot of the problem is that a lot of people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly. A lot of people also unfortunately watch it on small iPads, which in no way can do justice to a show like that anyway.”
He added, “Personally I don’t have to always see what’s going on because it’s more about the emotional impact…GAME OF THRONES is a cinematic show and therefore you have to watch it like you’re at a cinema: in a darkened room. If you watch a night scene in a brightly-lit room then that won’t help you see the image properly.”
Dean Devlin (INDEPENDENCE DAY) commented on Wagner's claim that fans have inferior tv settings, "What a crock of sh*t. My monitors are professionally calibrated. It was too damned dark. Just face it."

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE---Dwayne Johnson hinted he may be joining the MCU after he congratulated Marvel Studios Kevin Feige on the success of AVENGERS: ENDGAME, "Congrats on that and I know our assistants have been trying to get us together for dinner for months now. We're both super busy boys and I look forward to our schedules linking up and that's it. Congrats guys."

AVENGERS: ENDGAME---ENDGAME spoiler violence continued when a Domino's pizza employee in the ironically named Houston suburb of Friendswood attacked a co-worker who had revealed the end of the movie to him. Justin Surface, 33, was issued a citation by police.

CHILD'S PLAY---poster takes on rival TOY STORY 4 which premiers on the same day as CHILD'S PLAY.

MARVEL TV---Hulu announced two new live-action Marvel tv series: MARVEL'S GHOST RIDER with Gabriel Luna returning in the role and MARVEL'S HELSTROM.

WESTWORLD---Vincent Cassel will play an undisclosed villain in Season 3.

THE SUICIDE SQUAD---Portuguese actress Daniela Melchior will play villain Ratcatcher in the movie.

NINE PERFECT STRANGERS---Nicole Kidman stars in this Hulu series based on the novel about a health boutique director who vows to revitalize nine members.

COYOTE---Paramount Network tv series underway starring Michael Chiklis as US Border Patrol agent Ben Clemens who, on his last day before retiring, discovers a major smuggling tunnel between Mexico and the US and vows to apprehend the criminal behind it.

SAINTS ROW---movie underway based on the video game. F. Gary Gray is the director, and Greg Russo is the writer.

EMPIRE---Fox renewed the series for Season 6 and Jussie Smollett was not listed as being in the cast.

TRIVIA---veteran character actor James Hong played genetic designer Hannibal Chew in BLADE RUNNER. Earlier, Hong had auditioned for another sci fi role as Sulu in the original STAR TREK which went to George Takei, '"George and I bumped into each other, George Takei. He was coming out of the audition and he was just one of two candidates prior to me. And as I entered, I still remember it, I said "Well, what is this one, George?" In those days we were fairly busy going to auditions. "Oh," he says "just another low-budget science-fiction." Something like that, very casual. (both laugh) Of course, it was a turn of history event for him. And for all of us, really."'

Earlier, Hong lost out to George Takei as Sulu in the original STAR TREK.

In this GOT episode, darkness adds to the terror.
All the characters we care for are straining to see what’s out there, the same as we are.
It was much more of a mood piece than a conventional movie battle.

GAWD, dark schmark. And a complaint from the king of cheese Dean Devlin to boot. I agree with Wagner. I have a 60" LCD LG tv, about 3 years old, calibrated and changed by yours truly with no help from anyone and it played just fine. Dark but visually stunning., with a wonderful film like quality. Many moments were deliberately obfuscated but overall, was watchable for sure.

However...

I initially saw the episode over at my friends house on his 70" Sony 4K...and it look like shit, LOL. It still had some of that wretched "soap opera" effect even after he adjusted it from the factory settings, brightened it up, etc. The darks were splotchy at times and others just...couldn't see what the hell was going on much of the time.

24. The Great Gatsby (Luhrmann 2013)
25. Whiplash (Chazelle 2014)

Twin Peaks: The Return would be here as well, but I consider it a television miniseries.

I wonder what James Hong looked like back in the classic Star Trek days? I assume he's older.

EDIT: Yes, Takai is 8 years younger so I think that was the better choice as a your crewman.
