TUESDAY, MAY 7

DARK PHOENIX---tv spot released for the X-Men movie.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME---spoiler alert (see below).

GAME OF THRONES---HBO replied to the Starbucks coffee cup appearing in the Daenerys Targaryen scene, “The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”

OPERATION MINCEMEAT---Colin Firth stars in this World War II movie based on the true story of two British intelligence agents who used the body of a dead tramp, disguised it as a Royal Marine officer carrying top secret documents and left the body off the Spanish coast. Spanish authorities gave the documents to German intelligence which showed the Allies were going to invade Greece, but in reality the Allies were invading Sicily. The 1956 movie, THE MAN WHO NEVER WAS starring Clifton Webb, was based on the story. John Madden (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL) is the director.

BATMAN---AVENGERS: ENDGAME co-director Joe Russo commented on what DC Comics character movie he would like to direct, "As far as what I collected as a kid, I collected Batman. [That] was one of the DC characters I collected. So it would have to be Batman."

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS---director Mike Dougherty commented on tweaking Godzilla's appearance in KING OF THE MONSTERS, "I tweaked the back spikes, to bring them closer to the original 1954 spikes, because those were always my favorite. They are a very sculpted design - they almost look like fossilized fire. I also felt his spikes should be bigger, because in my mind his spikes are also his crown. If Godzilla's swimming straight at you, you see a beautiful silhouette if the spikes are big enough to crest above his head. I gave him slightly larger feet, because I felt a predator of his size would need to use his hind claws to tear into his prey. And I have him a slight club-like tail, inspired by the previous films. A little bit less pointed. Godzilla's never the same in any film, so I felt like I was continuing a tradition."
Dougherty also said he wants to direct a prehistoric Godzilla prequel, "I like the idea of going back in time and telling creatures' stories from different eras. SKULL ISLAND was set in the '70s, but personally I'd like to do GODZILLA B.C., go back to ancient times and really see the Ray Harryhausen-esque world where primitive humans had to try to survive with these creatures. Maybe we'd get to see the first time mankind truly encountered Godzilla, and get to see how that relationship was christened."

WONDER WOMAN---Charlize Theron, 43, denied the rumor that she turned down the starring role that went to Gal Gadot, "I did not turn the role of Wonder Woman down. This is a great example of how Hollywood slaps you in the face when you start ageing. So, somebody had said to me, 'There's action on this thing Wonder Woman, we just want to make you aware of it.' And I was like, 'I'm not familiar with it, I don't really (know), what does Wonder Woman do?' And this person said, 'No it's for Wonder Woman's mom.'" Wonder Woman's mother, Hippolyta, was played by Connie Nielsen.

STAR TREK---Veronica Hart will head the CBS global franchise group which will, "maximize the expansion of the brand beyond the traditional boundaries of linear broadcasting and streaming."

HELLRAISER---David S. Goyer will write and produce the remake of the 1987 Clive Barker horror movie.

GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE---Paul Giamatti will co-star with Lena Headey and Karen Gillan in this movie about a mother and daughter assassination team.

LONG GONE HEROES---Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce star in this movie about a mercenary who is hired to rescue a female journalist from his ex-comrades.

DYNAMITE ROOM---Jamie Bell stars in this movie based on the World War II novel about a young English girl who returns to her deserted village and encounters a German soldier who is part of the upcoming Nazi invasion of England.

PANDORA---CW sci fi tv series underway in which Priscilla Quintara plays a Space Training Academy cadet learning to combat an alien invasion of Earth in 2199 when she discovers hidden secrets about herself.

DOWN UNDER UNDERCOVER---Chis Hemsworth and Tiffany Haddish star in this movie about a male cop and a female cop who go undercover to investigate an Australian erotic male dance group which may be responsible for casino heists.

THE POWER OF THE DOG---Benedict Cumberbatch and Elisabeth Moss star in this movie based on the novel.

TRIVIA---In BLADE RUNNER, Morgan Paull was originally hired to play Rick Deckard and JF Sebastian for screen tests with actress candidates. He was impressive and was hired to play blade runner Dave Holden. Paull's first movie role was in PATTON in which he played General George S. Patton's aide, Captain Richard N. Jenson.

Morgan Paull played blade runner Dave Holden in BLADE RUNNER.

Paull's first movie role was Captain Richard N. Jenson in PATTON (holding the binoculars). George C. Scott is on the right with the binoculars. Famed stunt car driver Bill Hickman (BULLITT, THE FRENCH CONNECTION) played Patton's driver, who is holding the Tommy gun.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME---Joe Russo explained why Katherine Langford's scene was deleted, “There was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers. And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter [Langford] in that way station. The intention was that his future daughter, because these films are dealing with magic, his future daughter forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”

Operation mincemeat "the man who never was" is a brilliantly-made 50s warfilm. It is perfect already. They will be remaking Aurens next. Or the Godfather.

John Madden is the director. I’d watch it if it were Guy Maddin.
