Never before officially available in any format, renowned composer Gil Mellé’s chilling music is an expertly experimental mix of large orchestra and electronics that has earned its place as one of the great ’70s genre scores. Gil Mellé's The Sentinel is a must have score for the collectors of Gil Mellé's rare corpus.

* Mellé’s two episode scores include one fairly traditional effort, “The Circle of Time” (this was before his electronic music breakthrough), and a more intriguing, jazz-based score written for only eight players (“The Forest Primeval”).
He adapted the latter into a 14-minute jazz suite (“Waterbirds”) for a rare 1970 LP Waterbirds.

I think it's okay, in fact even "a good idea" to have separate threads for both releases, apart from the original announcements thread. THE SENTINEL is such an amazing score that it deserves a thread all to itself. I listened to the soundclips up on the La-La-Land site and was delighted to hear that they've included that great smoochy source piece as one of the extras. Sounds like Gil Mellé himself on baritone sax there. I loved all the brief source cues in the film. The Lipstick Commercial is just brilliant, and I recall liking the Shampoo Commercial too! That may sound nuts, but it's true. By the way, going on the (great) clips, there was quite a lot of music which I wasn't familiar with, and I know the film pretty well. Maybe dialled down in the movie or even rejected? And another thing - Don't base buying this CD on the clips alone - LLL seems to have highlighted the more scary/ moody bits over the grandiose moments, so all I'm saying is that there's a LOT more to this score than the brief snippets you'll hear in the soundclips. Again, that may sound like nuts (I mean, of course), but it's not uncommon for labels to highlight the only decent few seconds in their clips. That's when the score might not be that interesting overall. In this case THE SENTINEL is pure genius from beginning to end. Good credentials in the blurb (Mellé expert James Phillips et al). If this ain't the release of the year for me, I'm not me.
Maybe someone should start a separate thread for the Bear McC score, extracting it from LLL's initial announcement.

I like Gil Melle. I especially like his landmark Verve album Tome VI from 1968 featuring a traditional jazz quartet with Melle on soprano sax interacting with his own set of electronic instruments. I wish somebody would release it on cd.

I just made my wife and daughter watch that Melle percussotron video over the weekend, and I had forgotten all about The Sentinel release!
Love the retro soundtrack LP vibe on the design - makes me think I used to see the darn thing in the used record stacks back in the day - in my dreams anyway.
