For anyone who doesn't know, Shrek Retold is a wonderful recreation of the entire original movie by a bunch of internet animators and filmmakers released on YouTube a few months ago. It really tows the line between (rightfully) making a joke of the whole concept, and paying a serious and heartfelt homage to the original film. The result is a really funny and intriguing watch (especially for fans of the movie!) that really grips you in ways you might not expect.

But the reason for the post here is as follows:
In addition to recreating the movie, the filmmakers also commissioned a recreation/interpretation of Harry Gregson Williams' and John Powell's score, which has also been released on YouTube. It's mostly electronic and comedic variants and covers of the themes and motifs from the original, with some original riffs thrown in as well to help the flow of the film. It's a really, really intriguing listen with a lot of highlights (really love that Fiona vs. Bird duet -- and the kazoo take on the wedding preparation scene was just wonderful)! While it may not tickle the fancy of everyone here, I really can't think of anything to compare it to (when else has an entire score been reinterpreted [NOT re-recorded] by fans of the original?) and thought that it might at least offer some interest. Like the film, much of this music sounds (purposefully?) home-made... but some of it really is very funny and enjoyable to listen to, and you can tell that there's a lot of heart and sincerity put into the music.

Check it out here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXoWT_zT8HY

And if any are interested, the entire film's song soundtrack was redone as well here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPcziAPEvRc

I for one am a big fan not only of the music (and the project in general), but of the passion evident it's creation as well. Would love to hear what you all think of it!
