Are you going to be releasing something by Ragland and had his name on your mind?

Love both Lavagnino and Kabiljo, so this is a great batch Godwin!

May I make a suggestion for you in the future? Every time there's a new Kronos release, you title the thread here "COMING SOON ON KRONOS RECORDS", which just results in a great many different threads with the same title. Could you either put a date on each one so they are distinguishable (and stand out as "new" when first posted), or do something more specific along the lines of "NEW KRONOS: LAVAGNINO, MACCHI, KABILJO!"?

Yavar

Apparently there are only 300 "serious" film score collectors in the world.

Actually only 200 serious collectors. Another 90 are miscellaneous-motivated collectors, and last 10 are parasitic re-sellers.

Lavagnino is a unique, brilliant composer, and it's such a sad state of affairs given everyone in the world that you can only sell about 300 of these. Almost everything he ever wrote is worthwhile.

I love Lavagnino and after listening to a few music samples on the Kronos website, ordered the Ursus release.
It is shocking that only 300 people are interested in such great music. But maybe the issue is that almost no one today can even imagine buying a physical CD.
Are Kronos releases on iTunes, Spotify, etc.?

The Lavagnino CD is a nice, long-awaited release - I myself have already had a copy of the master tape for many years on CDR - and the score in several romantic passages shares some stylistic similarities - maybe also due to the main actress Yoko Tani in both films - with his MARCO POLO music from 1962 which is unfortunately lost and can´t be released anymore at all.
Some additional informations: Most of the stock music used in the film (on the Kronos website it is not mentioned where this stock music comes from) - above all almost the complete battle music during the last third of the film - comes from Carlo Franci´s IL GLADIATORE INVINCIBILE (from the same year 1961). It is a bit odd that so much music by another composer, but also from the CAM catalogue, has been used there. As can be clearly seen from the track listing, the music for these battle scenes will therefore not be on the Kronos CD as it has of course not been composed for the film.
Therefore the CD has a rather short duration of not even 40 minutes despite the additional few bonus tracks.
I find it strange that Godwin mentions Carlo Franci as conductor. Usually Franci didn´t conduct for Lavagnino during the early 60s. Lavagnino himself is credited as conductor in the main title of the Italian version of the movie, the English version mentions no conductor at all.
But maybe there was some mixing up as large chunks of Franci´s music for GLADIATORE INVINCIBILE had been inserted into URSUS E LA RAGAZZA TARTARA - and of course for these tracks he had indeed been the conductor. smile

I'd say that's about right. We are talking CD's. Nobody wants to see your mp3 collection. Other great labels only produce 300 as well - BEAT, Digitmovies, Quartet, MovieScoreMedia, Music Box, etc.

The majority of FSM'ers (who collect scores on CD) never leave the US.

No, some small amounts will go to some online retailers like SAE. And then those might get eaten up as well by asshole eBayers.
