I find it hard to believe someone who knows almost nothing about Star Wars could mention Chewbacca by name. If this is an honest interview/review just goes to show sixteen years later and the stench still won't go away.

That was pretty funny.

When was this interview?

EDIT: Okay, I finally got it to show.

I'm a little skeptical that this is a real interview. The Pod Race is only something like twelve minutes! If I recall, it's actually shorter than the Death Star attack. (An hour?!! Please.) Also, why would someone show a newbie the fourth film made in a film franchise, and the most controversial one at that??? Of course nothing would make any sense!!

Well, it’s the fourth film but meant to be the first episode, so I don’t see what the issue is there.
Even though I don’t really count the prequels, his logic is sound.

I don’t think it’s fake. Seems like pretty legit reactions.

Really?? Confusing Jabba for Yoda? Tell me that doesn't reek of a joke set up....

Also, I see nothing logical about showing Episodes I - III first to a new viewer (although others may differ); you need the exposition from Episode IV (in particular) to understand what the heck is going on in that universe. Otherwise you get confused watching them the first time...

EDIT: You also miss Vader's surprise reveal from Episode V if you watch Eps. I-III first...

I know the pod race isn't an hour long but it sure feels like it! And the Death Star attack was longer? Really demonstrates the difference between engaging storytelling and non engaging storytelling.

It's been 39 years since "I am your father." I don't think the reveal is that much of a shock even to newbies anymore than "Rosebud" being a sled is. You can watch these in episode order and follow them. It's not rocket science, it's family entertainment. I have two friends who introduced their kids to Star Wars this way and they were just fine following it all.

Well, if the lady really didn't know the difference between Jabba and Yoda, she might actually be surprised by "I am your father".

I rest my case.

Maybe I've been out of circulation for too long, but do women say "f*ck" so casually like the woman in this interview?

Resting ones case only means you have nothing more to add, it doesn't mean the outcome is in your favor. big grin

Confusing too non-human special effects creatures with baby names has no bearing on whether or not she heard "I am your father" and its context. It's one of cinemas most popular quotes. It's like, I used to say "go ahead, make my day" years before I actually saw Sudden Impact. Many people know the phrase but can't nail down the film other than to say "Dirty Harry.'

Besides, who cares if it ruins the revelation for HER? It's still a revelation for LUKE. Running the films in episode order is valid. You just didn't discover them that way.

The payoff of the revelation is in witnessing Luke's reaction, not so much the audiences reaction. I mean it works either way.

She sounds like my aunt watching a Marvel movie...

"The hell is that purple guy?"
"Ooo, there goes my guy, Idris Elbow!"
"Ooo, there goes your girl, Scarlet Johnson!"
"Which one is Captain America?"
"Does Idris die in this? I don't wanna watch if he dies in this. Does he die? Does he? Does he? Boy, answer me!"
"Ooo, there goes my song, Rubber Band... MAN!"
"Which one is Black Panther? Is it the purple guy?"

I think what this guy and his wife illustrated is that if you take away childhood indoctrination and a pre-existing love of the franchise, most of Star Wars is junk.

It tallies with my view that everything filmed after TESB has been too juvenile and silly, or a re-hash of what worked before, or just plain bad.
