Movie trailer released today! big grin

Is anyone in "the know" about the released score soundtracks from the series?
I see that there are 3 different versions released one from just season 1, then the "Essential" collection which is almost the same as the first, but with some extra cue (season 2?) and then there is the "Ultimate" version which is season 3 - 6? Am I correct? Anyone knows which cues are from which season? I just want to make ONE album with the cues in chronological order big grin

Oh and the Xmas release...does this have any episode score? Or just songs?

So confused! hah!

I've only bought the Ultimate Collection, it's 2 CDs at a good price (about 2 hours of music), and as far as I've been able to determine, there's only about 30 minutes or so spread across the other 2 albums (Essential and the first soundtrack release) that did not make it into the Ultimate Collection (those can all be listened to on youtube). The Christmas CD is just songs, some of which appeared in one of the specials, but I don't think all of them were from the show, as that episode only had a few actual songs sung it from what I remember, but I don't think there's any score on that CD.

Aha, so I can simply just add the missing cues from the first two releases into the "Ultimate" collection then.
I'm just not keen on having the same cues on different albums and such big grin
Do you happen to know which cues are from which seasons? I take it the first CD is season 1 only.

Thanx for your info! smile

I'm not totally sure how the season line up to the CDs. The Ultimate has cues from all seasons I believe. The other 2 CDs both have release dates of 2011 and 2012, so those might roughly line up with season 1 and 2. I'm at work now (don't tell my boss I'm not working!), so I'll have to do some homework tonight to get my list of the cues not on the Ultimate CD. I'll keep you posted and reply tomorrow with my list!

I looked at this a few years back. If you have the ultimate collection then you only need tracks 3, 6, 8, 10, 16-17, 19, 21-23 from the Essential Collection.

If you also have those tracks from the essential collection, you only need tracks 7, 12, 14-15, 17 from the original soundtrack.

So thats 15 cues "outside" of the Ultimate Collection I need to add.
This is exactly what I needed, guys!! Thanx a lot for taking time!

I am planning a rewatch and sort of want to (at least try) to make all the cues in chronological order.
I get OCD if its not! hah! big grin

Thanks! I enjoyed your review. I love the series & am looking forward to the movie and am left wondering why I never picked up any of the music. I'm going to have to change that soon.

For some reason the movie came out in Boston a week ago. The music sounded great. To me it sounded like they had some extra dough for a big orchestra. It’s one of those things that the “film score” benefitted from so much good stuff written over many seasons. It was very satisfying and an old-school movie. Light, entertaining, well done.

Yeah there was an advance screening available in many places the week prior.

Saw it yesterday with my wife, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Arrived home and the soundtrack cd was delivered as well, thanks Amazon! Ten minutes of careful extraction of the Decca top-edge security sticker which came off in about 20 pieces, but alas, sticker residue anyway.

But... the cd sounds great!

Saw the movie today and enjoyed it very much. From now on though I will be referring to it as DA:TMP (Downton Abbey: The Motion Picture). Alas, in spite of their guarantee Amazon did not deliver for me, I'll be getting the CD on Monday.

Great movie. The melodic, charming score does much to elevate an already fine film!

It is a good movie with wonderful production values. The music was gorgeous. I'll be buying the CD.

Rather disappointed by the movie to be honest (it's ok, but certainly not the series finest hour and is considerably lacking any kind of credible or interesting stake), but the score has definitly some highlights, like the opening and the closing cues.

Did anyone end up putting all score tracks in chronological order?

And I suppose the Christmas album is needed for the two suite tracks? Or are those on any of the other CD's too?

I just saw that there's a digital release for the Downton Abbey: A New Era movie that is coming this week. Has anybody here given it a listen?
