Just got through his score for WIND MAN and Wow!!
Like the recent STRINGS score (not by him) I bought from Keep Moving Records, it's a shock to hear film music being written in this way in the modern era.
It shares similar phrasings and instrumentation to some Ennio Morricone scores, but overall, it's just a wonderfully original, emotive and expressive work to what sounds like a really intriguing Russian parable/folk tale.
So, what other Yuri Poteyenko film scores would you people recommend me to seek out and buy/hear?
Yes Damian, that includes you wink

Well, you can hear some excerpts here

I very appreciate Vanechka, The irony of fate 2, Age of pirates and Sea dogs.

Age of Pirates
Sea Dogs
Salamander Key.
Leningrad
Fort Ross

All good in my opinion. The first two are good old pirates and buckle swash music. Salamander is more percussive orchestra with a lot of rhythmic drive(also Michael Madsen and Rutger Hauer are in the film but don't let that put you off)ass kickin'.Fort Ross looks like a sort of Treasure Island-Main titles Jaunty brass and woodwinds. Its a bit like some of the young indy stuff in places, quite broad at times but always tooney

Thanks for your recommendations Damian.
I'm hovering over SEA DOGS, SALAMANDER KEY and maybe GEORG or IRONY OF FATE 2.
What's the Christmas one like?

Christmasy ! (Bells, tinkly stuff).A bit of Prokofiev and Shostakovitch thrown in.Orchestral .Quite nice.Though there are only six tracks by Yuri ,the rest are by two other blokes-tariveerdev and JL PierrePoint(jingle bells) and are arranged by Yuri.
Georg is more brooding , not slam bang but orchestral melodic.A lot of piano soloist and some whispy flute. Both worth a go but not quite as good as the previous ones

Okay. Cool.
I think LENINGRAD is based on some Shostakovich music too.
I'll pore over the samples on the Keep Moving site and whatever's on YouTube and Spotify.
It's always fun discovering a new composer.
Thanks for the tips smile

Your thinking of shosh's Leningrad symphony (7th I think)but I don't think the score uses it ,no mention of it in the booklet.Quote " there's not a note of his works in the cue".Though it does say it whiffs of his stuff as well as Mozart's.

I think it was him that did NIGHT WATCH and DAY WATCH? Both very impressive and grand in the films, I believe there was a release of DAY WATCH but only a song comp for NIGHT WATCH.

Aye spook, he did those two successful Russian vampire flicks.
I remember watching them, back in the day, but don't recall much about them now.
There's no trace (that I can find) of either NIGHTWATCH or DAYWATCH soundtracks about anywhere!! (paging Ryan Paquet) wink
I'm currently playing WIND MAN on a loop at the moment. Brilliant stuff.

An album for Night Watch is referenced at SoundtrackCollector : http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/72708/Nochnoy+Dozor

But I believe it's mostly a song album with a few score selections, and I think that there are dialogue bits on it too... Very hard to come by ! There's a nice score clip on YouTube : https://youtu.be/VJdKbfGVoFU

I'll second any recommendation for any Poteyenko release by KeepMoving, because I like them all. One of my favorites though, is Fort Ross : catchy, entertaining and classy, a kind of "fun but sophisticated at the same time" approach. It gets a lot of replays :-)

Two more new releases by this dude on Keep Moving Records.
A TV series called The Code and a WWII true life disaster film called Saving Leningrad.
I haven't heard a score by this fella I didn't like.
Ordered.

Re edern's thumbs up for Fort Ross above.
Totally agree.
What a fun score it is.
It's funny, in the liner notes, where the director apologises for using Pirates of the Caribbean in the temp track, cos they were rushed and couldn't think of anything else! He told him to ignore it though, and woodwinds would be fine wink
Fortunately, this score couldn't be more opposite to the sound of the Zimmer and Co, with this one rooted firmly in the school of the classical tradition, with Holst and Korngold melding with Hook and Tintin, if you want some comparisons.
Great stuff.

For you and everyone, who want to listen. I just found soundtrack for the Day Watch (I'm not sure is it full album or not) on this russian music site. There is also music from another Poteynko works, so if you need a help with track-list (all track names are in russian) I can write it here.
Also there is one track from Night Watch, the name of it is "Epitaphia"
