Does anyone else have issues with Amazon and always having cracked jewel cases?
I'd say 90% of the CD's I get from them get cracked in shipping so really I'm just fed up with ordering from them.
Not me. Once in awhile one comes in cracked but not often enough to be an issue. But the hubs in the jewel cases , now there's the thing. Avengers Endgame was one of those extremely tight hubs, but the new Ghostbusters was so loose the disc slides around in the case
About 15% of CDs I buy from anyone (with the exception of a couple of major labels who use nice card boxes, you know who I mean) come with either the hinge arms or the hub teeth broken, or a crack across the front. No more so with Amazon than with anyone else though. I just buy a cheap batch of empty jewel cases and swap the bits out when that happens.
Not CDs, but I’ve had horrible luck with damaged Blu-rays from Amazon. They ship them in a minimally-padded mailer envelope and they inevitably end up with cracked cases. I filed a complaint on one title and specified the problem being the lousy packaging. They authorized a return and sent me a replacement... in the same packaging and with the same result (damaged case). I complained again and they authorized a return but declined to send another replacement.
I'd say I'm at 90% with Amazon, too. I was not happy when the Ghostbusters score arrived yesterday with a huge crack across the front. Usually, somehow, the replacement ends up arriving ok, even though it's shipped in the same terrible packaging as everything else (there was one CD that I had the hardest time getting one with a destroyed tray hub, though). With media in general, I probably return well more than half of what they send. I love that the return options still reference a "box" either being damaged or not damaged when the reason this stuff arrives damaged in the first place is due to the lack of a box or more rigid form of mailing. Those options are holdovers from many years ago when Amazon used to care about the condition something arrived. Speed is all they care about now.... not that a slower shipping option will result in better packaging.
I do not received cracked cases when ordering direct from La-La-Land/Intrada. La-La-Land surrounds the CDs in bubble wrap, which seems to work whether they use a box or not. Intrada uses boxes. Hinges on 2-CD sets is another matter, although with some of them I wonder if they break just upon initial use. Some of those hinges just seem stuck.

Yeah that's what prompted me to start this. I got my Ghostbusters CD in with a huge crack across the front and it's just a common thing that happens when I order from Amazon.
I'll stick to Barnes & Noble or Deepdiscount.com from now on since they both use the cardboard airtight mailers and I never have any issues.

I thought Ghostbusters was a digipak.
I ordered a CD and a 40 pound bag of dog food once. They were shipped together in the same package. The CD just inside the huge box with the dog food. It was OK, however.
I just have a stack of replacement cases at the ready, because at least 50% of all jewel cases will come cracked or scuffed in some way. As long as the discs, booklets and inserts aren't damaged, it's not worth complaining about a broken case they they're cheap and easy to replace.
Yep. Just got the soundtrack to John Wick 3 in from Amazon. Case is completely cracked so I'm doing a return. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would.
A packet of Tic Tac Mints comes in a better-manufactured plastic housing than a CD. Even a Tic Tac plastic case is infinitely more durable and scratch-resistant. I've never had to return a Tic Tac case because the plastic was cracked, or buy quantities of spare Tic Tac cases so I could replace them. CD "Jewel cases" must be the most worthless pieces of junk that humankind has ever displayed in its homes.

That way we can keep all the complaints about the above OUT of threads dedicated to particular score releases. Sometimes it literally seems to me that about 1/3 of any thread about any new CD release gets taken up with this kind of talk.
