She won’t reveal any details except to confirm she’s reprising her role as hauntee Dana Barrett.”

I think the only comic book movies I saw last year at theaters were Wonder Woman and Black Panther. But about a couple of weeks ago I started catching up with some of the Marvel movies so I could go see Endgame. I just finished Captain America: Civil War, so next up is Doctor Strange. Actually, the last one I saw was [Thor:] Ragnarok. I loved it. It was my favourite one of the series since The Avengers - drastically my favorite."

Now you want to write a love letter? You couldn't say "yes" before the abysmal all female Ghostbusters and before original cast members started to pass away?

I'm not all that familiar with the Bond films, I mean I've seen all the pre-modern day ones at least once in my life. But didn't Bond sink an oil rig in one film? Surely there were hundreds of personal on board that died of fire or went to a watery grave.

Not a Bond guy? Surprising. You are missing out I think.

Bond and the U.S. military attacked an oil rig in "Diamonds" but did not sink it.

Thanks for the clarification.

It always cheers me up when another superhero film bombs, I don't know why, it's not like I go to the cinema these days.

I wish James Bond had sunk the oil rig in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.
The intended big battle scene for the oil rig was supposed to have Marines (dropped from the helicopters) assault the oil rig for a big battle like in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, but everything was scaled back so the studio could pay Sean Connery's record-breaking contract. The special effects of the exploding helicopters was amateurish and awful. This really was a disappointing semi-end to Connery's return as 007.
The movie's actual ending of Connery dispatching the two assassins on the ocean liner sort of made up for the cheapskate oil rig battle.

A similar technique appears to have been used with Battle Of Britain. Some sort of cell animation overlay would follow a shot down, smoking plane and then it would suddenly explode using those quick cuts. When the two assassins despatch the dentist at the start of the movie, there's a Huey chopper they load with a substituted bomb instead of the diamonds. Kidd and Wint watch it lift off and start to fly away until it suddenly explodes. That was a proper explosion. My dad took me to see it at the cinema when I was a kid, and the sound of that chopper going bang was actually loud enough to make me jump - if God had wanted man to fly . . . he would have given him wings . . . Those two were actually quite memorable thugs. As in, "I must say, Miss Case is quite attractive . . . for a lady!" If looks could kill. DAF was my very first Bond and when they walked off holding hands, having downed that chopper, I remember thinking the kiddie version of WTF?

My favorite Kidd and Wint moment is when they've got Bond and dumped him into the sewage pipe at the construction site (Bond smells a rat - "one of us smells like a tart's handkerchief . . . sorry old boy, it's me") Anyway, there's that scene were the partners in more than crime are chuckling to themselves as they drive away. It's so hammy and artificial the way they're doing it, it's actually funny.

Yeah. That oil rig thing was just awful.
But I loved the sting as 096 had never actually seen the henchman:
" that's quite a potent after shave you're wearing. I smelled it twice before and both times I smelled a rat".

Bond films always had awful effects! Like old fashion Japanese guy in monster suit stomping over model buildings bad. The first time Bond effects impressed were Moonraker.

Derek Meddings did a great job in The Spy Who Loved Me as well. The tanker and the subs being "swallowed" looks great too. It would have won best FX that year if Star Wars had not been out that same year.

Ooo, did I hit a nerve there?

Call it a bit of healthy age related cynicism, but I just don't think we're going through a golden age of cinema right now (maybe you disagree). There's some amazing stuff on TV (HBO & the rest of them), so it could be that's where all the talent is these days. To paraphrase Mr. Wilde - It would take a heart of stone not to laugh when yet another superhero film hits the skids.

I smile Mr. Miyagi-like at Dark Phoenix's box office failure. This is because as a young dope I worshiped the original, masterful "Dark Phoenix" comic story of 1979-80. I still consider it a masterpiece, and not just out of nostalgia. I hold the original in too high a regard to watch the buffoons of Hollywood ruin it.

Oh, and Professor Xavier is NOT English. mad The character is listed as being born in New York City.
