This score has beguiled me.
Something about the music, in conjunction with the plot synopsis in the notes, has conjured a film in my mind that really sets my imagination soaring.
An old man with wings (possibly a fallen angel) is found near a town in the mountains and taken in by the townspeople, but his presence is met with various emotions, from fear and mistrust to disdain. Only a young boy offers him any friendship or hope.
I'm not sure if I ever want to see the film, as the one I see in my mind, as I listen to the music, is probably way more vivid.
The score is dominated by two main themes, both written in a style that recall the best of Ennio Morricone. Not so much any copying of themes, but the phrasings and instrumentation.
This score has really piqued my interest in the music by this composer.
Anyone else heard or aware of it?

The predominant mood of the score is sombre and sad and melancholic, with brooding chorus at times, but there's a bit at the very end of the last track, where the composer offers a gorgeous string elegy that really packs an emotional punch, following all that has come before.

I must add it's available from the Keep Moving Records site for about $3.
BARGAIN!!!

I agree Kev. This score is just marvelous. I have to seek out this film.

Played this again today.
This score is one of the best of this century.
That last minute or so is fantastic. One hell of a payoff.

Be sure to leave your thoughts on this lonely thread, George.
Good or Bad.
(I'm turning into Jim Phelps, thread reviver extraordinaire) eek

I don’t know this score in particular but I do know and admire the composer for other scores of his (going all the way back to his *two decade old* video game score Sea Dogs), so thanks for the heads up and the recommendation as always, Kev!

I think the Ennio-isms you allude to comes from the woodwind in the opening and closing tracks(especially). To my ears it's a bit of red tentyness. Still lovely stuff mind you.
Has anyone mentioned Vanechka, yet.The opening track is a whopper.second a bit more classical sounding with piano solo.As it's much of the score.(it's getting a spin as a result of this threads rise)

Thor was kind enough to send me Vanechka on CD for the price of postage and packing, when he saw me chatting about Y-Pot scores in another thread and mentioned he wanted shut of his copy.
I spun it twice and really liked it and I reckon it's due another spin shortly.

This CD runs for 28 minutes in total.
The first 24 minutes (tracks 1-12) are emotional, brooding, sometimes desolate, sometimes tense.
The last track (13/Outcome) features what I consider one of the greatest pay-off tracks I've ever heard.
The way it opens up (that string elegy) after the preceding music, offers up such an emotional, cathartic response in me, it takes my breath away. I actually well-up.
It's incredible. It really is.

It's available for $2.99 from Keep Moving Records.
And it just turned 11'30.
Frightening.

Quite a few mixes of his stuff up on The Tube. I think tomorrow morning's cleaning morning (well, for ten minutes anyway). I'll stick me earbuds in and try to drown out the sound of the vacuum cleaner by blasting my eardrums to smithereens with a bit of Yuri.

Don't go expecting any of that experimental or avanty garday sh!t you love from your Basil when he's in the Kitchen or Gil when he's causing a Meleeee!!!, Graham.
It's just honest to goodness classical style stuff.
Very clean, clear, in orchestration and execution. Old fashioned I suppose.
His inspirations (when they show) sound like all the guys I grew up listening to, so I'm enjoying that aspect of him.
And his own style is old school cool too.

I wish the other theme in this score was available on YouTube to link.
The one above is nice enough, but the other one (the one that breaks me in two) is just stunning.
When I first mentioned the Ennio Morricone vibe above, I've since discovered the link of that theme, to my mind, is similar to EM's ORCA theme, but not in any overt or obvious way. It just conjures that melody in my head.

I'd go with the red tent but not the love theme.

KeV, here is the End Credtis music (It's also the Main Title if I remember correctly) from 1st "The Inhabited Island" movie. Have you heard this one? If not, check it, I think you'll like it smile

Thanks SV.
That sounds fantastic (no, I've never heard it before).
BIG, EPIC stuff.
The second half of the cue, with the delicate piano and achingly gorgeous violin is just shimmering beauty at its best.
I'll be very happy if that is one of KMR's Y-Pot releases in April or May smile

I'll dig out my RED TENT CD, Damian, and see if I can hear what you hear..

It's a snippet from the main title. Plus they share a similar sombre mood.

Are you comparing RED TENT to the theme above I linked, or the one at the end of the WIND MAN CD, Day?
