Looked up the composer; surely they'd hire somebody who has demonstrated the talent of Goldsmith to the point where even the score was parodied in "The Simpsons", to score fi ... the Newton Brothers.

Never mind.

I have a big fresh hot cup of WHY? here.

Why tell us it's the last only to go back and tell us it might not be?

This has "Cancelled after one season" written all over it. Have you guys seen the photos?

I think the appropriate response was already done at another message board I post at sometimes:

RAMBO: Well, it's nice to know I won't spend the running time of the film waiting for Rambo to die at the end....

Go head. Maybe include or not include, "As the great Justin Boggan once said...". ;-)

It's inspired by this meme:

RE: THE BATMAN- They never learn. One villain isn't enough, we need two, no three, how about four?!
The story is guaranteed to be a rushed frivolous mess.

It can certainly be done with multiple villains. I thought Dark Knight successfully juggled Joker, Two Face, Scarecrow, and numerous mafia bosses. The trick is to not give them all equal time and focus. Firefly could be a great cold open villain, and Penguin could give Batman something to do while Riddler is slowly revealing his schemes. Also, I doubt Catwoman will be a villain. She plays by her own rules, and looks out for herself, but for the most part she ends up teaming up with Batman when things become serious.

That said, I am concerned for the project. For a long time they have been selling the solo Batman film as a smaller film where Batman actually uses his detective skills. Based on the above description I am not filled with confidence this will happen.

I have mixed feelings about Doctor Sleep after seeing this trailer.....

I loved The Shining novel - can't stand the Kubrik adaptation. It misses the point of pretty much EVERYTHING in the novel.

I enjoyed the Doctor Sleep follow up. It was no masterpiece but it was a satisfying rounding out of the Danny Torrance story. The fact that they're trying to tie it in to the original movie may work...but it disappoints me because it feels as though the point of the book may be missed. Again.

The Riddler--a criminal mastermind in Gotham City who takes delight in incorporating riddles and puzzles into his schemes, leaving them as clues for the authorities to solve."

Firefly--"a professional arsonist...attempts to burn all the places that he lacked the privilege to go as an orphan child."

The Screenwriter -- "a semi-homeless Starbucks hipster who complains about Hollywood running out of ideas while churning out the same. Starts every script with a Nietzsche quote. Hobbies: patchouli gardening, inhaling one's own farts. Dislikes: Citizen Kane, Watertower security guards, low wi-fi signals, gluten."

"Legitimate?" I was barely entertained the first time. Legitimizing its mehness does it no favors.

  • Parkes added, “It picks up the story 30 years later… 25 years later.”

20 years later... 10 years later... 1 year later... 2 seconds later... 30 minutes before... IT'S A PREQUEL SEQUEL MIDQUEL QUELQUEL!

One of the things I don't like about The Thing. MacReady (Kurt Russell) plays computer chess game Chess Wizard and pours whiskey into the computer when he loses. What a moronic thing to do, the computer beats him, so he fucks it up, & he & no one else can play computer chess on it anymore, & this is our hero, plus he's a miserable sod throughout the film. Great special effects, but a terribly written film.

I don't remember that scene but I loved the film when I saw it. I thought it was well written and suspenseful. Its one of the few films I like where Russel played a no nonsense tough guy.

I didn't think any of the parts were well written, so I really didn't care what happened to any of the grumpy cast (& it really did need a woman or two in it). I remember really looking forward to seeing it after reading a double issue of the magazine Cinefantastique all about the making of the film (which I still have). I saw it the day it opened...& was so disappointed, & I'm not surprised that it wasn't a success at the time. But everyone loves it now, & any word said against it & they come down on you like a ton of bricks.

The great special effects make-up wizard, Rob Bottin continued to do some great stuff after this (Total Recall & Robocop), but his credits disappear in 2002, maybe a victim of CGI...& then in 2014 his name turned up on the credits in a single episode of Game Of Thrones, the one where King Joffrey Baratheon dies, I think he did some work on his dying face.

Yeah unfortunately even though Kubrick turned King's horror tale into a Kubrick dark comedy/satire, it remains very popular, even though it's the least scary "horror" movie ever. People claim it is one of the scariest movies ever and that befuddles me. Kubrick admitted to King he didn't like or understand horror and didn't care to. So there's no way they can adapt the Dr Sleep novel since the shadow of the film The Shining hangs over it. Flanagan admitted he's trying to make a sequel to please fans of the book and/or film.

The trailer looks good except it's allllll color graded blue/green again. The single worst moviemaking cliche these days. That really dampens my enthusiasm. Darn kids and their cool digital coloring.

Yeah pretty much the typical teal and orange color pallet.
