People don't realize what can happen when their young children are visible on social media.

https://nypost.com/2019/06/15/zuckerberg-doesnt-post-about-his-kids-on-social-media-and-nor-should-we/

The thing about parents using their too-young-to-consent children as props on the parents' social media is irksome to me. It's meant as harmless status-seeking ("my life is terrific"), but it ends up as reckless narcissism that can put the children at risk.

The youtube algorithm that sorts other people's family videos for strangers, finding small children who are showing skin, that's irksome too.

Well lots of "duh's" in that article by billionaires that don't really give a sh*t about anyone's privacy and actually go out of their way to invade on it. Notice they didn't mention corporations or the government collecting data on you or your children? They're just trying to sleep better at night.

Don't want to expose your children to the world then keep them off the internet or set your social media to private. This is something the average parent should've figured out ten years ago. That said, children have grown up on social media and its as much a part of their social life as it is for adults. Good luck winding back the clock.

I'll never understand putting ANYTHING on social media, but that's just me.

People are vain.

It's the continuous treatment of social media as some form of a Gold Rush playground which threatens to prey on those, child or adult, whose streetwise prowess could be considered extremely low. Forget Napoleon or the Bay of Pigs, THIS is what should be taught in high school History classes, or better yet to eschew History altogether, replaced by Common Sense classes. Society can no longer depend on parents alone to do the teaching.

Kids have their own social networks (apps like Tik Tok and Like App) which are far more harmful to their well-being; they're addictive and damaging to their sense of self worth. These type of apps seem to be fueled by kids desperate for acceptance from strangers, and overrun with bullies who make sport of banding together to bring kids to tears or worse.

My 9-yo daughter's friends are on these aps, and she constantly asked to have her own account. Instead we've allowed her a YouTube channel, but we closely monitor her account, keeping the password to ourselves. We also require that we are involved with her videos and that they teach something to herself or her audience. Also, the environment on YT is considerably less volatile, and her videos have thus far gotten little attention outside of her friends.

Although we feel she's still too young for YouTube, by compromising, we've seen her interest in making social videos wane over the past year, giving way to drawing tutorials and stop motion animations, and a wider interest in making narrative videos.

I heartily agree with Jarre Jarre that schools should be teaching about the dangers (and value) of the internet.
