Yes, among the most influental people in 20TH century music. Unfortunately, very underrated these days. I guess any artist in the traditional pop vein has recorded at least one song with the Bossa beat during the 1960s - and it remained in high demand for decades. Gilberto not only created a musical style, but a lifestyle.
The Getz/Gilberto album has been among my all-time favorites ever since it first came out in the mid-60s. Great stuff! So sad to hear of his passing. RIP Joao!
Does anyone know when Gilberto and Astrud divorced? I've always nursed the belief that Joao "couldn't handle" Astrud's success and thus their marriage collapsed.
