DEMENTIA - fantastic release! What an inspired choice to pair it with the 1943 concerto - I love that vintage sound, and feels like a soundtrack as well. Stupid question - the Dementia tape is music/singer-only, no effects, correct?
Correct, no effects.
This is a hard to define score. Sort of reminds me of early horror/sci-fi music by Sawtell and Shefter, with some recurring themes, but varies nicely due to the nature of the film. It's well paired with the Ernest Gold concerto.
For the record (or CD), and in contrast with the information above, I noticed some minimal effects (crowd noise during the jazzy parts, and wind effect for a graveyard scene). The track notes indicate that music with more noticeable effects was omitted from the release, but unlike the film audio, the sound quality is much better.

For the record, yes, it's all stated clearly in the booklet - at the time I responded to your question I was still unsure what we were going to do about certain effects - the plan at that point was to get rid of anything with effects - when I ultimately heard the finished edit I liked the minor ones that were left because, as I state in the booklet, they were almost musical.
Finally, either I misread your post the first time or you've edited it (EDIT: Clearly you've edited it several times now) - the part about it not being the complete score. The film runs approximately fifty-seven minutes. I believe if you clock the Dementia portion of the CD it runs app. fifty-seven minutes - we edited out VERY little, perhaps twenty seconds tops, and what's gone was overwhelmed by a sound effect or dialogue under which was music we've heard before. For the record.
